My Macbook pro won't recharge my new ipad.

I thought it was kinda funny when I read reports of people unable to recharge their ipads using the USB ports or their PC's and hear that they don't supply enough power.

Ironically enough, I just realised that my 2007 macbook pro (the one right before unibody macbookpros came out) is unable to recharge my recently delivered ipad. None of the two usb ports is able to provide enough energy.

It's annoying now since I have to fully recharge it before I'm able to sync it to my mac :/

Yep, my old Santa Rosa MBP 17 couldn't charge the iPad either. But I upgraded to the new i7 model (was ready to upgrade anyway) so it's not a concern any longer. It was a surprise that the older one couldn't charge it.

This has been stated numerous times, the iPad is best charged with the adapter it comes with as USB ports (powered and non-powered) cannot provide the voltage / current required to charge the iPad due to its requirements. Hence why you will see "Not Charging" near the batttery icon at the top right hand corner.

It will charge, albeit slowly, as long as the iPad is sleeping/off.
