Hey all! 👋

I’m excited to share an app I made — Typibara, a simple Mac app with one mission: to make your work/writing sessions just a little more fun! 😊

🌟Why Typibara?🌟

I’ve always enjoyed creating cute little art; it’s something I find relaxing. Not sure how many of you grew up with Tamagotchis (I did! 🙋‍♂️), but I thought, “why not have something like that on my Mac?” You don’t have to do anything for it— Typibara sits quietly in the corner, typing away in sync with you, and brings a little bit of joy to those otherwise boring tasks.

With so many “AI-powered” and “productivity-enhancing” apps popping up, I didn’t want to complicate things for Typibara.

No AI, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, just your work buddy Typibara. 🦫

Features:

Customizable Look: Typibara comes in different sizes, colors, and skins (with more on the way).

Flexible Placement: You can easily configure where you want Typibara to show up on your screen through the settings.

Made for Mac: It’s a native app written in Swift. Typibara’s supposed to be a work buddy and should not be a burden. From my testings (M1 Pro MacBook Pro), I haven’t experienced any lag or impact on performance (more data on the website). You also have the option to turn off animations, or configure show/hide settings so that it’s even less intrusive.

Future of this app:

I want the future of Typibara to be determined by the community.

We could follow the path Typibara was originally created for, and release more unique skins for Typibara, I’ve got so many ideas already (Next one up is Lo-fibara 🤣).

Or we could go the “functionality” route, and introduce writing sessions, pomodoro, word count, WPM, etc.

💻 Check It Out at Typibara.com!

Cheers!

Privacy and Security:
Due to how Typibara functions, I feel like it’s necessary to address the privacy aspects of the app.

Typibara does not have network permissions enabled, and operates entirely offline and locally on your device. The app uses your inputs on the spot to display the correct animations - nothing is stored or shared.

Users are able to verify these claims at anytime by themselves. For more details on that, you can review our full privacy policy.

I would probably buy it if it was offered outside of the Mac App Store via a direct download from your site.
Thanks for your interest!
Just out of curiosity, is there a particular reason why you prefer purchasing the app outside the App Store? That'd actually be ideal for me as the developer, since apple takes a quite a portion of revenue. However for an app like this, I really want to make sure people can trust Typibara, so I turned off network permissions altogether.
To distribute it directly, I'll need to implement some sort of an update checker/downloader, as well as license verifications, all of which would require internet access.

I don't want to sound "mean" but how is it useful in its current state? 4.99 bucks is not much in general but seriously ... a paid app... really?
I get what you're saying, the idea of this app is for it to be a fun add-on during boring work hours, or when you're grinding that essay. I've got lots of messages from users saying Typibara now accompanies them during their coding/writing sessions, and I'm glad people are liking it, it's these moments that make the development process worth it to me.

It doesn't have to have a "function" per se, I'm sure everyone has their productivity app of choice already, Typibara's supposed to be there for the emotional support.

Since it does require quite some work to develop, and I do plan on continue adding in new skins (possibly features), I hope it's not too peculiar to charge for the app. I personally hate subscriptions so I wouldn't do that to Typibara's users, so I thought "the price of a cup of coffee will do".

Hope this makes sense :)
