Hello all.

Thought I would share my accomplishment here today. I was frustrated that Apple wouldn't make different color and finishes for the airpod so I decided to take matters into my own hands. After a couple of airpods destroyed, much research and experimenting, I was able to turn y original airpods into matte white airpods! It takes lots of handwork and various passes to blend different liquids and pastes into the seamless finish.

Here is a picture showing the original one on the left and the matte on the right:

In reality the difference is even more pronounced, as I feel the pictures reduce the glare and glossiness of the original surface a bit. The texture and finish is very classy, beautiful but subtle. Silky smooth as well. Biggest difference besides the awesome looks is how it feels without that nasty greasy feeling after extensive use or a workout!

Unfortunately the case seems to be made of a somewhat different plastic so the results were not as good as on the airpods themselves. You can still see the specular highlight there in the picture, which is completely absent in the airpod. I did manage to cut down that oily feel quite a bit though so it's enough for me.

I do not plan on testing with other colors right now, as those big color companies do, as I have no way to open them nice without making a mess. Anyways, hope I am not the only one that likes the feel and look of matte surfaces better!

As much as I appreciate your ingenuity, I’m kind of confused, you’re saying that you were frustrated that Apple didn’t make different color finishes for the AirPods, so you basically made almost the same color, but just an off white with a matte finish? I guess I don’t see the separation of that being really much different. I would also question if the matte finish that you’re using will also have dirt/grime stick more to them during usage.

Ill report back after using them for a couple of weeks.

You are correct, I wish apple made variants for the airpods. I was annoyed both by the glossy finish and color. Took care of the finish, good enough for me.
