.......all right, neither do I :p ! But anyhow - my wives Penryn MB does  ! I mean, after 10 minutes of inactivity.

I’ve started this new thread since my last one was starting with a confusing title, sorry, but basically it’s still about the same: My MBA does definitely not go into sleep mode after the respective time of inactivity as set up in the system preferences for energy saving!

The screen shuts off, yes. But hd and cpu they keep working, and the white LED on the front remains constantly bright. That's not what I would understand as sleep mode..

I’ve tried quite a lot to sort this out, including a re-format with fresh install of OS X this morning: But even with nothing than a naked OS and standard settings it was still the same: no time-tiggered sleep mode!

This is kinda weird to me since the MBA goes into sleep mode without any trouble when I close the lid! So I would believe it couldn’t be hardware related. But now after the fresh reinstall it neither can't be software related, can it? Any idea? I am not too familiar with macs, not yet  . However - many thanks!!

Will it go to sleep if you force it by selecting "sleep" from the Apple Menu? Or by using the powerbutton? If not, it would be a hardware problem.

Yes, without any doubt! But I have to update you even if I can't believe it yet : I was leaving the unit for a little wile (as I did before certainly dozen times) and came back just this minute and it was sleeping?!??? This is the first time ever since I own it.

Well, I will watch it closely and if it works now please apologize for the dust! :) :)

It was just nervous

The Air is a very delicate and small system and therefore quite understandably nervous whenever sleeping for the first few times at a new owner's house.

At first it stays awake all the time to make sure everything is ok, but after a few days it gets comfortable and more acquainted and will begin to readily sleep when it can, as you have now seen.

On a serious note:
I've had this happen once to me too. Other times it does sleep. Since it was an isolated event I shrugged it off.

You're right :D

But before I had done the re-install from scratch, it coudln't sleep at all with open lid. Afterwards I believe it first had do finish some tasks like spotlight or whatsoever. Anyhow, since yesterday evening it sleeps like a charm as soon as I walk away for more than 10 minuts :p

ps: the only app I haven't re-installed so far is snapz pro - a screen recording tool. Now I am kinda scary..
