Sooooo I just got my brand shiny new CTO 4GB 13.3 MBA this morning at about 9:45 am yesterday in Illinois. I was sposed to go to bed because I am working nights at the moment but i stayed up for hours setting it up and playing with it (my first MAC) and so I finally get home after working a 12 hour night shift and open up my new MBA expecting instant on and....nothing. The damn thing will not turn on and I tried all the tricks of the trade (suggested by apple support page) and nothing. It was fully charged when I left it in the morning. Also, my magsafe charge light is green which means it is still fully charged right??? Man what a super disappointment. My first MAC and it freaking dies immediately. My Win 7 desktop at least started...good ole faithful (granted it took about 55 seconds...pff)

I'm so sad!

Bummers man.

You're only recourse is to call apple for a replacement.

If you are near an Apple Store, I'd suggest bringing it in. Perhaps it's just a loose cable inside or something that's a quick fix. Sometimes things happen during shipping. It happened to me once with a printer (loose cable).

Well I was wrong...my display came back to me...but then went away again...I may have fallen into a choice few with bad laptops that cannot wake from sleep properly...

See the following:

I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Care. I have to send my macbook air in and wait another week. What a pain! I just got it!

Post if you guys are having the same issues!

Are they wanting to repair it or swap it with a new one? I would not want it fixed. If this is wrong right off the bat it could be a sign of things to come. Take it back to where you purchased it and get an exchange. Things happen like this with electronics but that does not mean you should have to wait a week to get a 12 hour old computer repaired.

Notice he said it was a CTO, so it came from China. :)

But I do agree that I'd rather get it replaced than repaired. That's what I did with my 13.3 that arrived with a bad screen.

Oh that sucks OP :( Sadly no company is immune to hardware failure. It happens. Hopefully your replacement will be trouble free. They really are great machines.

Thanks for the support everyone. So what happened was this.

Since I had the custom order Apple Care had me return my MBA to a store to speed up the return process. I brought my Air in, got an apple gift card for the original purchase price of a 4GB model 13.3 inch.

The real perk though was that I have a corporate discount so I only paid $1,393 or so and they gave me a gift card for $1,500.93 or something like that. End result? An extra $100 in Apple bucks :). What should I buy?

Oh and if you are going to ask...no the extra $100 is not worth the two nights of my free time wasted loading up my new Air...then troubleshooting it...then troubleshooting it with Apple Care...then having to drive to a store and explain for a second time what happened.

Glad to hear it is not a wide spread problem though! Cannot wait to open my new Air for a second time! :)

My first MBA developed the display issue. Got so bad it happened 50% of the time.

I'm now on MBA #2, this is like gambling at Vegas.. ha...ha..ha...
