Why not just close the thing 100%? Or are you trying to leave it *almost* closed? I'm not really sure what the issue is here (if there is one).

it closes by itself, when it seems like it should be rigid at all levels of being open, no? Almost like the screen is too heavy once it gets to a certain point.

Well, if a "certain point" is 95% closed, then I would imagine it is operating pretty normally. If this was happening at say 35% closed then I'd say you have quite an issue. Your MBA is fine.
Head over to an Apple store and check theirs, likely act the same way.

If this helps I took a photo of mine, this is the furthest I can close the screen with it holding itself up, anything past this and the hinge "ends" and the screen closes. You should be fine though, as long as the screen holds itself up when you're using it then the tension is fine

Please tell me you're not serious with this thread. Most people have the laptop open when they are using it. They might adjust the angle for the best view. When they're done using it, they close the lid. Please tell us what prompted you to even experiment with how 'close to closed' you could get the lid.

You do realize there is a magnet that closes it right? You do know how magnets work right?

only the "ultimates" do this...they have stronger magnets...

the rest close at 98%

I just tried mine out and mine is just like the one in the picture (just before the magnets kick in). It is not like it is a big deal to me (unless it closed when it was up only 30 degrees). I just was curious and had to find out for myself. :)

That's how mine is, too. It's much better than my Rev B was.

I tested mine and it closes at 95.7% so maybe yours is defective and Apple will replace it.

My MBA also neglects to defy the laws of physics. I'm immediately exchanging it for a new one. God, you'd think you'd get a premium product with the premium price you pay. I'm gonna go to the Apple store and test the lids of all the laptops they have there. I guarantee that none of them will have this... problem. I'm so frustrated right now.
