Hello everyone!

After 2 swollen batteries, one keyboard connector failure, a “delaminating” screen coating, my MBP 15’ mid15 is now unable to boot or crashes after a few minutes.

I searched this forum thoroughly and came to the conclusion that it might be the GPU. I tried to switch from one GPU to the other with the “nvram FA4CE28D-B62F-4C99-9CC3-6815686E30F9:gpu-power-prefs=%01%00%00%00” command in recovery mode and it changed the gpuswitch value to 1 when I checked (pmset –g). It worked until computer went to sleep. Now the computer won’t boot again.

When booting on the Mac partition, the computer behaves like this:
P Apple MBP écran bleu.jpg

Blue screen with apple and starting bar moving. Then the screen goes black, fans start, and nothing more happens (or the blue screen reappears and the whole loop stats again).

Approximately the same happens when booting with the Bootcamp partition:

Then
P Apple MBP DémarrageWIN 2.JPG

Then loop again.

In safe mode the computer works but with severe display issues (instability, lagging, etc.)

This happens whether gpuswitch is 0 or 1.

How can a computer have so many issues?

Please help me!

You’ve got a lot going on it sounds like. I know it’s not the best advice but have you tried to completely blow away the OS and start from scratch?

HI! Since no one seems interested in my problem, here is a

LITTLE QUIZ

There are 2 laptops on this picture. One is a 2008 machine which has been working flawlessly for 15 years (only 2 dead pixels), the other is a piece of fecal matter from 2015 plagued with issues since the beginning.

Which one is which?

I’ve had many APPLE laptops since 1992, upgrading every couple/few years. Some models great and others not so, in general they just kept working (even if retired to the closet) and kept them for years till A.G.E. made them not really usable (plastics, screen, keyboards, hinges, electronic… problems) in minor or major ways. The worst were those designed-to-fail GPUs in my 2010/2011 MBPs, 4 APPLE replaced motherboards (and would have replaced another if their free replacements window hadn’t expired 1 month before).

Sounds like so many multiple issues on what is considered one of APPLE’s more dependable laptops. Sorry can’t help here, with what you’ve tried it could/probably is a logic board, and that is an expensive not really worth it repair. Sometimes a computer is just at the end and time to move on, sell it for parts. I just sold my still working fine, longest in use, and in great condition (except a couple battery cells swollen) MBP mid-2015. Hated to part with it, but put the money into the M1 which runs rings around it, better in every way. It was just time, and avoid any future frustrations.
