So I got my new MBP on the 21st of Feb....opened it up and pushed the button...booted...phew...

I noticed that night the right speaker was 'off'....distored....people in iChat sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher.

I called Apple on Fri. the 24th. Spoke to Tier 2 who escalated my case to engineering, gave me her extention and a case number and said we'll call you back in 2 - 3 business days.

Waited.

Wed. came...no call. I called in...was sent back up to teir 2 with a different rep who looked up the case. He said that they wanted to 'capture' my MBP and my rep was on top of the issue and in the process of setting it up, and I should hear back from her, but leave her a voice mail.

Her voice mail states "Leave me your name, case, phone # and I'll get back 1-2 business days" So I did. Friday came, no call back. Left another Voice mail. No call back. I called back in this Wed and spoke to front line who said "I'll hear back from her when she knows something". Being that I was in my car on my cell, I decided not to press the issue. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks..

My MBP also has the infamous 'cpu whine' which varies depending on power draw. Also, I noticed that it also has the just as infamous 'TmOP' error that people on the Apple boards are getting, but just like their units it ONLY happens if the machine is hot.

There is speculation they are not shipping any units until the 20th at least due to them fixing these issues. Which if true I hope is why I haven't heard anything, however a call back would be nice.

I love the machine, performance wise it's great and it doesn't have the LCD buzz or sleep issues, etc....just want the rest of it be defect free.

Sometimes it's best to take the machine to an Apple Store (if you are near one) or a good authorized Apple Service Center. That way they can immediately confirm your problem rather than having to try doing it over the phone.

I'm not a noise Nazi so the CPU whine wouldn't bother me but the speaker issue obviously needs to be dealt with...hopefully they'll get it sorted out.

The Store close to me would be by my sister in NJ...bout an hour and a half.

The CPU whine isn't bad...barely audible... although I don't believe it's the CPU; it's related to power draw, be it CPU or iSight, or bluetooth or whatever...

The right speaker sucks for iChat but overall sound isn't too terrible....

I am concerned with the 'TmOP' error that appears only when the machine is hot however.

Hey, actually that's pretty cool. I always wondered how they did it :D

I have the whine issue. (well it sounds more like a hiss than a whine to me) Pretty annoying it seems the majority if not all the units are affected (loudness of the hiss seems to vary however) so little point in returning it. I'll have to wait for apple to do something, preferrably a software fix.

after reading up at the apple discussion website it seems the tmop error is some type of temperature sensor problem.

another reason why rev a machines = visa stays in pocket ;)

Hell yeah I feel the same way, I´m happy with my pb. Ive had such bad experiences with the iMac so Im staying away from rev A. I feel sorry for you guys having problems...really hope they work them out somehow!

Every revision seem to have little problems , I don't think the rev a intels have any more than any other rev I've seen.

My mbp is perfect no "whining" no screen problems no speaker issues nothing. Its just that those with problems shout louder than those without any.

Only issue I've noted so far is that it gets a bit warm on the lap but so do most other laptops nowadays.

I hope the opening poster gets their issues sorted tho! :)

Well, just spoke with Apple....explained my 2 additonal findings (The TmOP error which occurs when the machine is hot in the Apple Hardware Test and the "CPU Hiss")

I had the option of replacment or repair...I took the replacement.

I don't want the machine sent in, waiting on hold for parts forever, possibly getting dinged up by someone opening it etc etc...

I'll take my chances with a new one however long it may take to get here. It seems like people who are just now getting them are reporting no problems.

Plus my trackpad button seems a little 'spongy' to me and I didn't want to go into that as well :p

Bad news for some of you.
I have changed my MacBook Pro because of the cpu whining. Unfortunately the new Book has it too. I am not sure to change it again or just to give it back and buy something different. Perhaps I give Apple a last try. Obviousley it is a very common defect. Otherwise it could not have been that I have the same error twice. Positive is, that it took Apple just one week to send a new one from Shanghai to Berlin, Germany. But on the other hand. What was it good for?

I thought they fixed the CPU whining? or was that the screen buzz? I don't no.

No revision A's for me.

The CPU "Whine" wasn't the reason I sent mine in for replacement....that issue didn't bother me too much...it was only noticeable in a really quiet room and could be 'fixed' by increasing power draw.

My main issue was the distored right speaker....and the TmOP hardware error when the machine got hot worried me as well.

Sent it out this AM...hopefully have my fully functioning replacement soon.
