My mini just kicked the bucket?!?

Just finished watching a movie on my 1.5CS mini. Swapped out the speaker line for a pair of headphones and the mini completely shut down (hard shut down). Completely non-responsive to the power button now.

:( Seems like I'm SOL unless anyone has any ideas. It's long since out of warranty, so any fixing will either be done by me or not done at all...

Better excuse for an Imac if you ask me =). I say pop the top keep a voltage meter handy and check the power supply to see if mabye a cap blew. If a cap blew you need a new PS and if thats the case, might be hard to find for the mini since its so unique. If the computer is unresponsive I'de have to give my best guess and say start with the Motherboard "Logic"board and the powersupply.

Glad to see that worked, I had the same thing happen to me for my G4 Mac Mini about a month ago, was watching a movie and surfing the web at the same time on my 20" widescreen monitor and them it just went dead. I did the PRAM/ PMU reset and I have never had a problem set.

I'm glad you Mac Mini CS is still kicking!!! You might want to consider upgrading the CPU in your Mac Mini CS to a Core Duo. I just bought a Intel Core Duo 1.66Ghz T2300 on eBay for 37 bucks including shipping. It would be a nice speed boost compared to your Core Solo 1.5Ghz!!!!

DoFoT9 is correct, you might want to get an air can and clean out your Mac Mini. If you could, it be best if you could open the case and clean the Mac Mini out that way. I did that to my G4 Mac Mini and the temperature dropped around 7 ~ 10 degrees Celsius!!!

Thanks guys, I've noticed its running a little slow lately. Maybe a good cleaning will help.

Don't know whether I want to sink any more money into it (re: processor upgrade). I'm planning on buying new machine(s) very soon; just waiting to see what happens with the macbooks and if the mini gets any love. I may jump to an Air and an iMac or new mini. Or I may just grab a new macbook and keep this little guy for movies and music.

:sigh: such decisions :p

That is true, but think about it this way, if you are going to open the case to clean it away, why not install a T2300 Core Duo and boost the performance at the same time. 37 bucks for a CPU is really not a bad price. I can give the link to the auction, the seller selling them still has two t2300 left.
