I went and bought a nice widescreen LCD monitor today, hooked it up to my mini and got super excited to be able to watch dvds on my spiffy new monitor. When I went to my system preferences to change the resolution settings to what my monitor's box said, everything went black and I got a "no signal" message that wouldn't go away no matter what I tried. So I returned it and the guy at the store said my mini may not be able to output at that resolution and it was a mac problem. He also said that most likely ANY LCD monitor I buy at this point will be too bling for my 3yo mini to handle. Is this guy for real?
How do I find out the max resolution output of my mini? This is what it is:
Machine Model: Mac mini
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.42 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 256 MB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.8.9f1
I'm not ready to buy a new mac quite yet; I just want to get rid of this 50lb CRT monitor. Any advice?
