I signed up to mobile me yesterday and so far it's been good and bad in roughly equal measure...

THE GOOD
• Completely got rid of the over 100 spam emails I was getting every day.
• Got push mail synched across mac pro, macbook pro and iphone.
• Forward my me@mydomain email to me@me.com and I receive mail through me.com and reply through mydomain.com on all my devices
• Synched my address book and calendar across all 3 devices.

THE BAD
• Got a kernel panic requiring a force quit every time I tried to reply to mail - solved by logging off mobile me and logging in again and logging out of and into system again
• Mails were not previewing in the view window when the title was clicked in the mail list - only the header was showing until I double clicked the mail then a new window would open which did not show the mail either but the mail would then show in the original preview window - solved using same method as above.
• Having synched my mac pro to mobile me, it suddenly decided it had never been synched. When I went to synch it again it told me a machine with this name had already been synched on my account and I couldn't synch 2 computers with same name - in other words it thought my mac pro today was a different machine from my mac pro yesterday - I went ahead and synched it again anyway and seems to be ok so far.

THE UGLY
• Back to my mac - 8 hours spent trying to get this to work and still no luck...Got my mac pro BTMM to turn on at least but MBP at home always just says "connecting" but never getting anywhere. As part of diagnostic I brought the MBP to the office and plugged it into my ethernet hub - now BTMM is on on both machines and they can see each other in shared devices but when I try to connect from one to the other it just says "connecting" again for ages and eventually "connection failed" with no explanation as to why. BTMM is without doubt the most un-maclike application I have ever come across "it just doesn't work" from what I can tell - It's the first time I've rung applecare in a decade (and still no luck). I've tried all the troubleshooting steps and have uPnP enabled on both routers etc but with no results. It's been interesting googling my problems and seeing many threads on many forums from people all with similar problems to me - and not once have I seen a thread that actually ends in a solution - just lots of people posting "yes - I have that problem too, can anyone help?" and eventually the thread ends with no answers. It's a real shame as BTMM promises to be brilliant for me - if only it worked.

Any BTMM gurus who can help me with this???

you have to set up your gmail as an account in mail/on your iphone. Once you have it set up as a mail account, click reply on the mail you got from me.com and (on the iphone) click where it says Cc/Bcc, From me@me.com, a couple of new fields open up, click the one that says: From: Me <me@me.com> - you will then have the option to chose your gmail account as the one you are sending from.

haha this is how i use it right now. I thought there was an easier way. I sometimes forget to change it and end up sending it from my me.com address.

yes, doing it manually everytime is no fun, it's why I stuck with gmail and didn't go beyond the trial period ... too bad, good idea but lacking in some key features with other providers give well, FREE :D

Gmail's though does not work exactly the way it should as it puts in the email "sent on behalf of...." which sort of eliminates the fact that you are trying to send your mail from a particular account.

i think mobileme is good for the iphone bc we dont really have that many business-related features, so it really helps to keep me in touch w/everything

I read somewhere with mobileme there's this service that let you connect to your mac wherever you are. Good think if your mac get stolen (hope it won't).
