So I was eagerly awaiting the delivery of my new 3.06Ghz, 4GB, 1TB 24" iMac, which arrived via Fed Ex on Friday. I unbox it only to find a dent on the base. Looked like it was banged in to the corner of a desk or wall or something. Anyway, totally disappointed, can't understand how Apple would allow this to get through their QC.

Apple is sending out a new one this week, I hope it arrives in good shape.
Just curious if anyone else has seen similar QC issues with their machines?

Was the shipping box also dented and banged up? Then that would be evidence that it was Fedex's fault (reckless handling of packages). In which case, most computer shipments between Apple and Fedex are covered under some kind of (limited) shipping insurance.

In any case, good to see that Apple is sending you a replacement right away.

What was the condition of the box?

both the fed ex packing box and the iMac box were in perfect condition. This was not a "transit" issue, the machine was definitely dented prior to boxing and shipping. still can't figure how someone dents the machine and still boxes it up for shipping  Hope Apple gets their QC under control

Bummer! I had a similar incident a couple of years ago, it sucks. You really like to expect more from Apple :D

I like to think, things happen
doesnt matter what the corporate statement says, some guy is getting paid $14.80 an hour to move one thing from here to there on the floor, and clocks off at 4pm, with little regard for corporate imaging

I am still waiting for mine to arrive, ordered it 10 days ago, 11 tmrw.
Bought through a Sydney reseller $2,550 for iMac 2.4", 4gb, 500gb, office 2008, wireless kb and mouse instead of the apple rrp of $3,400

So, whilst I hate waiting, it will be worthwhile soon
No dents of course will be nice, but at least yours will be there soon

New machine arrived today

and happy to report that it's in good shape and running well.
Gone on an Apple Binge :apple: in the past 2 months:

3G iPhone 16GB
Macbook Air 1.6 Ghz/80 GB
Time Capsule 1TB
24" iMac, 3.06 1TB 4GB NVidia

I'm thinking Apple TV is next :D
