The icon for this app has been designed by MacRumors user Candyman and discussed with many other users in this forum ;)

Use Album Covers to rediscover your music.

Design an album collection by arranging the covers in the way you prefer;
you can move, resize and rotate them, you can arrange them one on the
other and control transparency; you will be able to create nice images to
use as backgrounds for your iPhone/iPod or send them by email.
Save your creations in the organizer to use them in the future.

Listen to your creations!
Album Covers will choose and perform random songs from the albums you have inserted.
While listening to the songs, the covers will become livelier in three
different modes.

And of course the first review is a one star from a user that doesn't understand that you have to touch ? to open help...

I'm seriously considering not releasing new apps until the review system is fixed.

Sorry but that app icon is horrible. Really really bad. As in, one of the worst I've seen.

The colours shades are naff, they don't go well together, the thick black lines look terrible and the whole thing is a bit WTF. Nothing to do with your slick lookin app.

I would seriously consider you change it. Looks like a nifty app though

I would hire a proper designer to redo it and a few others. ABC Ontacts being next in line

Thank you for your comments, this of the icon is a never ending story :)

Personally I like it; that said I know that (and this is valid for all my apps and possibly all apps in general) it's not easy to design an icon that everyone likes.

Aaaarrgh it's the Windows media logo!

If it really is I'll change it NOW :D Seriously I'm not a PC so I don't ever know what the windows media logo is like.

The intended icon meaning is : this is a player (the triangle) that works with your album covers (the square blocks).

@stevearm, thank you for the suggestions ;)

Yikes!

Gotta chime in on the ugly app icon here.

You'd be surprised how much the look of an icon matters when people are purchasing apps. It can be the best app ever, but if the icon looks fugly, people won't want to have it on their beautiful iPhone.

I would do something about the background. It doesn't invoke "covers" to me at all, and the colors are just too much.

Many users like it.
I'll still try to apply some color theory and see what I get :)

OK, the icon - not my fav.

Have you tried this for picking colors?

http://kuler.adobe.com/

I have yet to use it on anything in particular... but it spring to mind when you mentioned color theory.

But ya, it's WAYYYY close to the Apple one! LOL!!

I'm looking forward to trying out when i get some cash! :D (and really, don't ask why i can't download the free version right now  )

Thanks for the link TraceyS/FL, I'm learning to use Photoshop and I know about the kuler panel. The problem is that I like clashing colors :D

Bwahahahaha..... there isn't anything wrong with that though! Maybe different shades? What about the "Citrus Grove" one on there? Similar but tweaked...

I see myself getting sidetracked picking colors today too - how'd i miss a thread on this topic? :p

And hey, i used to wear purple shoes with my red pants or socks before those Red Hat old people made it popular, i was COOL back in the 80's man!

I sure do remember this discussion! What do you think of this icon?

Funny, didn't seem to be getting this much negative feedback back then. Most liked the look or just had slight mods.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is a bit different than a few of my initial ideas based off the original you came up with, but it sure does pop out against many of the other icons on my phone, mainly because of the brightness and multiple colors.

I agree the colors are very bright and bold, maybe too many, you can look into a more flat or soft color palette, maybe more monochromatic, there are even some great iPhone apps for building or choosing color families such as Color Expert, cliqcliq Colors, or Palettes

As has been mentioned a few times, Adobe Kuler is very nice as well as a free online tool.

In the end, it is your app and your decision and you need to be happy with it. I am glad to help in any other way I can.

The blocks of colour just don't look like album covers, they look like... blocks of colour! Like some pre-school toy.

And I'm confused by something... is your app a music player? If not, why does it have a big PLAY symbol in the middle? The app isn't a media player so why should that be there?

Why don't you make a stack of CD albums, with say 3 on top of each other. Or something like that. Not this MS Paint job youve got now.

can i just say i like the icon... flame me all you like.

i like the bright vibrant colours and it'll help it stand out from the other icons on my homescreen!

It's ALSO a media player. Is this not clear from the description ?
