My Number - Country Code or Not?

Settings > Phone > My Number

I have the option to remove the country code (+1). Would there be a downside to doing that?

I know absolutely nothing about the way those things work, but I DO know that where I live, in the future, they will be making you dial the country code before the number because of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. So I think it would be wise to keep it.

I also don't know how it works, but I'm going to flip your question around: What's the upside to removing it?

Always use the complete number with a country code.

Otherwise you'll run into problems once you share your number to others or travel.
