I have a mac pro 1,1 just as you do, specs can be seen in my signature.

You should have ZERO issues playing anything in HD. I do it on my 23" apple cinema display and it handles HD absolutely perfectly on youtube or any downloaded video files also play perfectly in HD using VLC or Quicktime.

If I were to guess, it sounds like a graphics card problem... but thats purely a guess. I could play 1080P video on the old card that came in this and that was a low end ATi $50 4650 (I think?) card that sucked badly.
Could also be a codec problem. 3GB ram is a bit low, but it shouldn't effect the ability to play back HD video at all being that low.

Hello,,,sorry for the off topic but this is really urgent

Yesterday my Nvidia 8800GT died, and now my Mac Pro 1,1 is dead without Vga.
i noticed in your signature that you have a GTX 570 installed,,,i suppose this is a Pc flashed with 32bit or 64bir EFI or what?
Do i need to flash my Mac Efi 1,1 to 2.1 or or should i leave it so?
Please answer anyone who knows about this issue....

Thanks in advance

You can probably bake it back to life. I say this in all seriousness. Even people here in these forums have done so.

I have already done it 3 times with hot air . The first time worked for 6 months, the second time for five months, and this 3rd time we have the...FUNERAL....unfortunately.
What scares me a lot is that the Vga card does not even show lines or something when it is in the 1st X16 slot.
It show vertical color lines when it is inserted in the last slot.
But only the first slot is 16X.
All others are x8 ,x4 ,x4
i Want o install Lion but there is no solution other than to buy a new card (which one?) and flash it, hoping that the damage affects only the Vga and not the Logic Board...

Thanks for your interest.

Wow, that card has been through a lot. What I know from the Nvidia FAQ is that you can get a GTX570 for Lion on a MP 1,1 and the drivers support it out of the box. There is no need to flash. You won't have boot screens.

The problem is, that card won't work without the drivers in Lion and it sounds like you don't have Lion installed. So you're going to need a card that works with Snow Leopard, even if it is just temporary while you install Lion. A 5770, 5870, or 6870 perhaps.

:(As you said i don't have Lion installed, and i dont know how to install it without the VGa.
I got an XFX 8800GT which i was about to flash trying different versions of Roms, stock rOMS, MODIFIED rOMS but the Nvidia flasher always shows the same ...ing message that Both Boards and Bios are different versions, the Bios id 602 does not much to the Board Id which is something else....i think Boards ID number is 611
So update is aborted.
I am frustrated because if i get a new card and the Logic Board is damaged (i dont think it is but... i am not sure) then i will have a new Expensive card which will remain intact without any chance to return it to the store so that i get my money back.
Before a year or so (before i baked my 8800GT for the second time) i bought an ATI 5770, and because of the Artifacts i returned it and got my money back. Apple claims that the 5770 is only good for the 2009-....models not for the Basic and 2.1...Luckily after the "Torture of the Hot Air" My 8800 finally worked and there was absoloutely no problem.....till now !!!!
Does anybody know which version of Bios do i need in order to flash my XFX?
its Rom is not 1024k but 512k, so i guess the file and procedure must be different.
Sorry for my poor Englosh i hope you all understand what i am saying...

Thanks everyone for your replies....please if someone knows something about this specific card XFX 8800GT and how to flash its BIOS let me know ASAP. I have a serious project to do with Motion and i can not afford the purchase of a new card.

Again Thanks..

P.s My MacPro is 1st generation model 1.1

You can't flash it without replacing chip with 128K one. There's no 64K ROM for 8800. Do you have another Lion capable Mac? If so you can install Lion on MP via target disk mode. Your XFX 8800 will work without flashing in 10.7.5

BTW, you should have to create new thread or use one of existing "dead 8800" threads.

I'm not an expert, but my instinct tells me that a dying video card acting differently in different slots is not evidence that your logic board is bad.
