I was absolutely one of those people who always said "yeah, BUT it doesn't do [x application]" and "well, why not buy [x device] that does it cheaper and better instead?" And now I feel bad and slightly ignorant - I just held the iPhone for the very first time and my opinion is totally changed. Okay, so it isnt the one device to rule the world (yet) and it may have little kinks and there might be another device that can deal with a dedicated task better, but I have never EVER seen a device do it so elegantly, so intuitively! Any Blackberry or Palm device I've owned seems archaic in comparison, and the few minutes I got with the iPhone were more enjoyable than the hundreds of hours spent trying to navigate other devices comparatively-awful user interfaces.

So, to all the nay-sayers, remember it's a 1st generation device that will only get better and give it try! Maybe you will change your mind too! As for me, I'm buying one the day my current contract is up...
 
I sat here for 30 mins today erasing all my personal data off my Blackberry Pearl to give to a friend.

The whole time I am thinking "what a piece of junk this is".
The light "plasticy" feel - ugh.
I could go into how the web on the Pearl is an absolute joke, but why take up bandwidth.

The iPhone is not perfect, but it is a great v1.0 product, years ahead of anything else out there.
 
I agree fully. It has been the first smartphone that I have felt I wasn't always fighting with to get what I want to do. What it does it does well. I haven't been having to reboot the device daily. I don't feel it is either a great phone but weak PDA or great PDA but weak phone which my previous devices have been. Instead all the features it does have are strong and work.

As soon as my iphone activated and I had phone service, i tossed my blackberry 7-blah blah whatver to the same place in the far corner of my desk... and it has not moved since. Same spot. One week later... it has not even occured to me to pick it up for any purpose.
 
Glad I'm not the only one! I wish all the people posting about how much the iPhone sucks would take a deep breath and remember how amazing it truly is.
 
I remember when I first heard about the iPhone I laughed at what I thought were ridiculous prices and predicted that it would be a big flop and no one would buy it, and guess what, I own an 8GB iPhone. As soon as I saw it and played around with it I had to have it, even though I already loved my current phone, a Nokia E61.
 
I think the huge expectations are partly to blame.
Erase all the 6 mos of hype and look at the iPhone fresh and anew compared to the competition, and you quickly realize, there is no competition.

Short term it is not IMHO encroaching on the enterprise market, but as a small business I did not need all that (Blackberry enterprise or MS Exchange server) anyway.

I know it was your friend, but you really should have zeroed your BB. They could get the info on it back if they really wanted. I also recommend Treo owners that are getting rid of their Treo do the same.

Hear, hear...

I went down to the Apple store at 5th ave last night. I can't wait to relay my impressions of the phone to my buddies that work for Nokia and SonyEricsson. They should be worried... very worried.
Ok, the phone is still "old" in terms of technology, but you can see where it is going. Give it a couple of years and I wouldn't be surprised if Apple made it on top 5 Cell phone manufacturers.

Same. The iPhone saved my job. I was miserable at work and just got into a email fight that reached its way to HR. Post iPhone -- all is well. I have been so happy that the guy I got into it with is in my iPhone contacts list. He was the 1st to come to my desk to play with it. I just hope that this iEuphoria last until I can get a better job :eek:
 
9 days later I still love this thing. I used my Dad's old treo 750 today and it truly does feel like something from a decade ago compared to the iPhone. Its difficult to understand why people would focus on the few negatives, as if there is anything truly better out there. By better I mean in your hands in real world use, not "better" on some spec sheet of features.

And although I was skeptical at first, using the 750 today I realized what a waste of space a normal keyboard is when you are making calls, browsing, watching videos, listening to music, etc.
