If you opne the "Contacts" from within the "Phone" app, at the top of the contacts you will see your own phone number.

I have seen this on other people's phone but I don't see that on my own iPhone.

Is there anything missing?

My contact info is in my Address Book on my Mac by default, probably from when I registered it. Hence, it's in my iPhone, too.

ETA: I don't see my phone number listed elsewhere in that app, though.

The OP means this.

You need to have your number in one of the 4? special areas on your SIM for it to show up in your phone book like that.

It also makes is show in iTunes when it's there. Mine has it and has done since I manually entered it in using the card reader on my laptop, some sticky tape and some freeware :D

It's nothing to do with the software version...and I'm a good boy on an O2 contract, not unlocked or jailbroken....
With a 1st gen silverback 8gb!

Is this something particular to ATT? I don't have that and I have a plain vanilla 3G O2-UK phone on 2.0.2. Where are these 'special areas' on the SIM and how do you get at them?

Not jailbroken, with AT&T (it's a 3G), nothing special at all...

Is there a reason I should care? My phone works perfectly, so I don't want to mess with a good thing, but if there's a good reason I should maybe get a new SIM or something, I will.

Mine doesn't show up in Contacts but it does in iTunes and in the Phone app.

This happened to me. Call AT&T and have them send an OTA (over the air) update/reset to your SIM card. The problem is your SIM card was not properly initiated, and your number was not written to it.

After they send the OTA update, turn off your phone, then turn it back on, sync it, and your phone number should be there.
