Most strange because if I use exactly the same charger cable with my iPhone attached to her iMac, this issue does not occur, so it has nothing to do with a faulty cable, dirty contacts etc. Nor does it occur if I use the same cable and charge her iPhone from a power bank. Any fixes most welcome!

Are you sure there's nothing blocking the port in her iPhone? It sounds like dust could be obstructed in her charging port.

Quite sure because if she uses any other source of power to charge her phone (from a power bank for example), the beeping does not occur. (It occurs only if plugged in to her iMac.

My old iPhone 6 did this when I plugged mine in into my MacBook Air. And it had zero to do with the cable as I used literally 2 different OEM cables and even tried a 3rd party one and my phone would ding ding ding connecting and disconnecting from the computer. So it couldn’t charge let alone do any transfer of data... and everything online says it’s the cables fault! Try a different one! Maybe it’s dirty! LOL I’m sorry but the cables worked fine on any other computer and charged from bricks just fine. OP I know exactly what you are talking about. And all I know is you will get the same answers. Your port is dirty or it must be the cable. Did you turn it on and off again? Sigh. I’m intrigued what anyone else has to say about this. But it seems to be a USB A port power issue aka a hardware issue

There was a bug when the device will go in connect/disconnect loop on a Mac due to drivers issue. Does this happen only with one phone? Try connecting other devices at 30-40% charge level.
