I reinstalled Mountain Lion last night and since I did my external hard drive will not show up on the desktop or in Finder. In Disk Utility the hard drive shows up, but the only option is to eject or help. I have run the Western Digital tools and they all say it is fine. I also updated the firmware. The hard drive is only 4 months old. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Could it be indexing? Here is the system report for the USB drive:

Are you on a Power PC Mac Pro?

I ask because I see there you have formatted in Apple Partition Map (APM) scheme which is for booting a Power PC machine. You should be able to read/write with this on an Intel machine, but you won't be able to boot to it on an Intel machine. That would require the GUID scheme.

While in Disk Util can you select the drive name itself (1TB WD Passport or whatever) at the top? If you can, try that then reformat for there.
