Anyone else out there having an issue where their phone is not ringing? At first I thought it might be a coverage issue or user error:p, but my wife has an iPhone and the minute someone calls her, her phone 'wakes' and rings. I've called my mobile from my home line, my work line, and my wife's iPhone and it does not 'wake' and eventually just goes to voice mail.

I've looked at all my settings and everything looks okay. I've tried a soft reset and restore of iPhone to no avail. Any ideas?

How long has it been since activation? If I remember, you can make outgoing calls immediately, but incoming might take a while to activate while they complete the transfer your previous number.

Do you have the silence switch on the side activated?

I had it activated on July 1st... I've been making and receiving calls for 10 days. It's just that in the past 4 or 5 days, the incoming calls and text messages are not causing the phone to 'wake'

First place I checked was the silent switch. I wanted to make sure I ruled out 'user error' as much as possible before I posted. Checked the silent switch, phone settings, general settings, etc. I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue or a carrier issue. Several times when testing my mobile number, the call just failed and I got a fast busy. However, the minute that I hit the home button when I'm calling the mobile number, lo and behold, the iPhone starts ringing.

Are you always in the same place when you try to test receiving calls? Could it be a dead area in your house? Try some tests...turn on your phone, look at it, make sure you have a signal, then call it from another phone. Does that work? Then try turning it off, knowing you have a signal where you're standing, and call it from another phone.

Yes - tried to power it down. Even went through the dreaded restore of the phone through iTunes.

Yes, tried that as well. Actually, put my phone and my wife's phone side by side on our kitchen island. From our home number, I called her line and the phone woke right up and started ringing that great Marimba tune:) Then I call my phone and my phone stays 'asleep'. I try calling it again and after a few rings, I hit the home button and then my iPhone recognizes the inbound call and starts ringing.

Text messaging is pretty much the same... goes right through on her phone with a noticeable beep when a new message arrives. Nothing for me until I wake up my phone. Starting to really think it's the phone...

Can you try and swap around the SIM cards?

Think you're probably right. It seems like the phone loses signal when in standby...I think I may have heard that someone else had this problem, but I'm unsure. Try calling Apple or taking it to an Apple Store. If you can reproduce it right in front of a 'genius' they'll probably replace it on the spot.

I set up an appointment for Friday afternoon with the Genius bar over at my local Apple store. Hopefully, I'll be able to recreate it there.

I had the same problem. Whenever my iphone was in sleep mode for a while, all incoming calls went straight to my voicemail. I brought the phone into an apple store and they gave me a new one.

I had the same problem with two phones....after 2 three hour phone calls where Apple conferenced in ATT, I still do not have a phone that works...and I am out $120+ for re-stocking fees.

Apple says it is Att's fault and vise-versa.

Crazy gadgets!
