My phone won't go back to the home screen?

Hitting the home button does nothing, it's stuck at the "favorites" screen. I can't power it off either =(

Help?

Restarting it fixed it, but still, what happened?

same happened to my iPod Touch today.. I can only do play/pause and previous/next song, nothing else works.. Everything is else is frozen... There is no way I can turn it off either and just now I did a sync with iTunes, but it didn't do anything.. I guess I'll have to restore it or let it run out of power so I can reboot it

Holding the power and home button should restart it anytime it freezes.

I only knew the "press the home button for x seconds" method, but that one didnt helt since I was stuck on the "Slide to unlock" screen..
