I took about 400 vacation pics on my iphone but when I got back to check them there were less than 50 on the camera roll. what happened? Are they hidden somewhere or did it not really take the pics? how could it let me take all those pics and not save them? There was plenty of space availible so how could this happen? Ok well if it actually took the pics is there any way to recover them?

I have the original iphone:

DCIM 100-3 pics 101-empty 102-empty 103-empty 104-47 pics

just an update....I took a couple more pics but the camera does not work at all. the shutter opens and closes as if it's taking a pic but nothing goes into the camera roll. I'm pretty sure I can't recover pics it never really took but how can I get this camera working again?

since you say you have the original iPhone, you're definitely out of warranty, so it looks like you'll need to get a new one. I doubt anyone will be able to tell you anything to fix it. You could try a restore, perhaps it is software-related, but IDK.

Have you connected it to your computer to see if the pictures show up there? Maybe the camera roll just isn't showing them.

If they're not there. Then do a full restore on the phone. Does that fix the camera?

If you purchased AppleCare your phone might still be under warranty, if so take it to Apple. If not, then you could get a $199 replacement... or maybe use this as a good reason to upgrade to the 3GS.

A full restore meaining I will lose everything? hmmmm I don't think I want to do that.

No only the pics on the camera roll showed up when I connected to pc. the other 400 must be in outer space somewhere.
