Hello everybody! Just recently I've launched my portfolio for my work. I really don't have a business as I'm only 13 but it's a start. Please take a look at it and let me know what you think of it.

not sure if you are male or female and it doesnt really matter, but you are very good. keep up the good work. your photography is not bad. could use some tweaking here and there, but you will learn. design is nice too, but think everything through. have a reason for everything.

otherwise great little sight. you will go far kid.

If I had that kind of talent at 13 I wonder where I'd be now, at 26. Stick with it, learn the principles of good design (which can somewhat be applied to photography), and you'll be outstanding!

Fabulous.

But usability should be a higher priority to you. For example, the text menu isn't large enough, and it doesn't make sense that the icons (or icon-like pictures) beside the text menu don't link to the items. Another example would be your method of contact... the mail letter doesn't clearly spell out its purpose and took a minute for me to realize it was all there was. Or in the photography section, the pictures link to submenus, but the name label below does not, and they don't really convey that you are bringing the user to a new whole category of individual pictures (maybe a more submenu-like approach would be good).

I also understand that you wish to communicate your strong talent by framing it with the fact that you are 13. However, I do not think that is either professional, conducive to potential clients' trust/willingness to work with you, and I think it might mean that you shouldn't have even been able to register on MacRumors, not that I care. But it just doesn't do any good service to your name or your portfolio.

I'd also recommend using your flamboyant aesthetic to your advantage. Capitalize on the glam, the camp, and the fabulous nature of it by targeting more specifically businesses that want the rainbow/pizzazz/sparkly/pictures-of-Marilyn-Monroe-and-Twiggy aesthetic. I mean no insult by this (as I am myself gay), but you may find great client potential in businesses that cater to the GLBT community. I don't know how appropriate it would be to give business to a (gay) bar, but I know there are quite a few establishments out there that would just love to have you making their identity, posters, website, everything. Maybe strip out the puppy photos and Apple mockups (though they're great, find continuity--if you want to do technical illustration, make ANOTHER portfolio or company separate from this). Good luck! Don't be afraid to be yourself!

Excellent! I'd like to be able to see the mockups much larger; popup window perhaps?

That is fantastic. As a 14 year old who has a casual hobby in design and cinematography I can tell you I am pretty damn jealous.

Study different styles, learn new techniques, strive to get even more professional, and in your free time check out deviantart.com

Oh yea! Stick with it!

Keep in touch

P.S. I like your Photo Manips...Mockups are ok...designs are pretty profesional (you could halp the london olympics)

You are perfectly where you ought to be at your age. All you have to do is keep doing what you're doing. Wonderful work and it looks like you are having fun. Bravo!

The only thing I would add is learn about graphic design and photography history.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I guess everyone thinks my designs are more feminine??? Oh well...

I wish I had more freetime so that I could actually make some images of my own apple mockups. (Think the iMac... mix in a multitouch screen... and then mix in the ability for the entire thing to be flexible so that you can just roll it up and take it with you... or maybe bend the bottom so the onscreen keyboard isn't at an odd angle for your hands... oh... and make it a bit larger (like 36-40" rather than 20-24".)

Geez what would have given us THAT impression?

Well living with just my mom and my sister for the past 8 years may have had an effect on me... Also that my sister is a fashion freak and loves design it is very possible that they're the reason why there's a touch of feminine styling in my designs.

I know the feeling. I lived without a dad for two years, only me, my interior designer mom and sisters. That changed me a lil.

Yes it is pretty girly...but most vector styling is.

I wouldn't take it personal. All of my biggest clients I've gotten from doing middle aged women stationery sites and tweener chick sites. It's probably an advantage.

Don't ever let anyone make you think that you have to explain who you are in defense. Your designs, your aesthetics, those don't define you. They're just one part of you.

In terms of the site design, you have this very organic feeling background, which is then completely ruined by the icons you have for Main, Design and Photography. It's as if two styles are clashing together, and the result does not work at all. I would look into fixing that.

I think for 13 years old it is stunning! Hell, I could never make a site look half as good as yours. You do some good work and I look forward to seeing what you can do in the future!

As for a lot of the people here that took the time to respond, I would take a lot of their advice. I am by no means a graphic designer, so I don;t feel right giving advice. I say keep pushing on!

I change the backgrounds regularly, so the current one will be up for maybe another week if that. I also change the site design about every month.

Edit: I just changed the navigation bar, the contact button is on there and all I did was remove the icons and make it rollover text.

Just wanted to say that you're on the path of being successful. I don't want to pull the you're just 13 card but I will. Keep on with your education and love for art. If I had a 13 year old with your chops I'd be amazed. A+

Very nice site. I don't like the blocky cross-fade on your nature photos however. Too distracting.

I can't tell you how much better that looks. Honestly, complete 180, much better.
