I was taking my iMac to the Apple Store Regarding superdrive beeping. Normal. But the techy said that my HD was much louder than normal. He told me to take it in tomorrow, and I have had two kernel panics. And when I check the logs, It says :

CANNOT READ/WRITE FROM MACINTOSH HD

It says that about 300 times.

Ah, glad you're getting it fixed. Back everything up before taking it back to the store. Hopefully they'll just quickly replace your hard drive and you'll be up and running again within the hour. Good luck. :)

when HD's fail there are usually a few telltale signs: Clicks, beeps, weird noises, etc... The beeping might be coming from the HD and not the Superdrive. They are right next to each other in the imacs
They usually give hints when they are about to fail.

An awesome place
Wait, they are sending you the HD for you to replace it yourself?

Which iMac do you have? Is it an iSight G5/Intel? They are not as simple to open as the original iMac. That would be weird.
