my ram

i have 1 gig of ramon my mini.

i have a widget taht checks your ram.
when the mini boots up i have about 800 begs right
i open a few progams and im down to about 600-700
but wheni close those programes my ram doesnt come back and it gradually gets lower. is this supposed to happen or what?
