My Rev B. is kicking 6200/fan speed with just safari, advice

Hey guys,

My Rev. B SSD has recently started exhibiting hot temps at around 70 =/- C, and fan speeds at 6100-6200 with just having safari open.

Plugged into AC adapter, and the speeds just do not level off. Called Apple to schedule an appt.

My question is what in your opinions am I looking at here? Hardware is what the apple rep advised me, however I am concerned here.

BTW my screen is Perfect.

In case you are wondering, NOTHING is open but Safari and or Entourage on occasion lately as this has been tested now for a week or so.

Any advise would be very helpful before I go in.

I'm afraid say, that from AAPL's stand pt, ur ground is probably pretty weak
the genius could have just say 'it's normal, sure ur computer is gonna heat up when you launched and running an app...bla bla'
You'll probably have to go on further to demonstrate that the heat/temperature it is generating does resemble the machine a 'defective' status

I'm sure they are all willing to help,
but it's just not very convincing to follow up and perform any 'fix'

from an user's perspective, re-applying thermal paste will help

Well I thank you for your input. Believe it or not, my case seems to have 2 issues, and both user related- I believe.

I use a speck case, and he said it is not dissipating the heat correctly (1), probable, not sure yet.

Also while using on my lap I use a belkin lap thingy (got it for xmas) and it's soft, so I think the vents are getting blocked (only a little) but maybe.

Time will tell, he told me to remove the speck bottom and go from there.

I really would like to go with the thermal paste option, and I just may but I want my buddy to help me as he knows the internals of these machines better than I.

I have the specks casing (actually two lol) and yes it does hinder airflow since its not flush with the vents, causing like a whirlpool backflow/backpressure. So first, I'd take off any underbody casing to begin with. Nothing on the market to this day has made a decent undercover other than the film attachments like invisishield. Second, putting the mba on your lap or pillow or whatever will make your temps spike up to 80 even if it covers 1/3 of the vents on the right side (the least problematic... generally heat will be worst under your f1-f4 keys). It is basically gunna have to be ingrained as a no-brainer that you can't put anything under your computer other than a hard surface or like a book that'll allow the freeflow of air where your vents are.

I reapplied thermal paste on mine. It won't make a difference if you continue to use the specks case and cover/obstruct the vent's airspace. It also voids your warranty. Start by just understanding the vents need to have clear airspace and adjusting your positioning of the mba accordingly. If anything, I posted a small DIY with pics on here on how to do it. It's pretty easy and though it does void your warranty, its hard for people to know: "The only way they'll know is that the thermal paste was put on correctly" - a funny and true pun.

so i took it in for a similar issue...
the genius verified it and got the manager to see what they could do.

She was a total biatch and was like i have that same machine and its within spec. We got in a lengthy argument which, I could tell was getting nowhere so i took the high road, just left and called apple customer relations who agreed with me that I was treated unacceptably. So I sent in the computer today and they are going to see what they can do.
