I'm going to Disney World this summer and I'll be taking my iPad Pro 10.5 for the flight and to use in the hotel, but I don't want to risk taking it to the parks themselves. And it's too big, really.

But my iPhone 8 (regular size) is a bit small for those downtime moments when I might want to browse the internet, or read a Kindle book, or even watch a tv show or movie.

I've always found the iPad mini too large — I want something between the iPhone 8+ and the mini. At the same time, it's an expensive thing to get smashed up while you're riding a rollercoaster.

Step forward the iPad nano! Also known as the Kindle Fire 7.

Now, I know what you're thinking. I should be banned from the forums for life.

BUT three points, if I may.

First it currently costs £34.99. That's right. A 7-inch tablet for £34.99. Insane.

Second, although the quality and features are not an a par with Apple — indeed, it makes you appreciate Apple's design and craftsmanship even more — it's not completely horrible. The screen resolution is about half that of the iPad — and you notice that when you're reading text — but for watching video, it's really very good indeed. Besides, it's only £34.99. How good were you expecting it to be? Frankly, at that price, the screen quality is astonishing. Especially with video.

Third, the processor is almost comically slow and the OS is a train wreck. But for my use-case, I can deal with those limitations. Because (did I mention this already) it's £34.99. If I drop it on a concrete floor and it smashes into a thousand pieces, I don't care! It was £34.99! I'll buy another one. Hell, I'll buy three!

As a low-risk travel tablet that is a serious bargain. And no tears if you lose it, drop it, or get bored and use it as a frisbee.

Well, quite. And, as I said, watching video on it is a surprisingly good experience.

I got the kindle fire 7” for my 4 year old nephew. They had a kids version for a few dollars more than included free downloads from their special kids service. He seems to like it, and if he breaks it, they will send a new one for free.

It’s not exactly free. Your 4 year old nephew pays for the replacement because you put him in the position of letting Amazon watch everything he does. That seems creepy to me.

Last couple of times we’ve been to DW Orlando, I’ve seen loads of people using iPads as cameras... I definitely wouldn’t (Nexus 5X, 6P, and Pixel), but the amount of people I saw using them like this was unreal.

I did have the Pixel C tablet with me the last couple of times, but that was mainly for messing around and booking things when we were out and about.

I’ve also had a couple of the Fire 7 & 8 tablets that I’ve passed on to herself and other family, as I’d found them too limiting, but I thought they were reasonably useable once I’d hacked around to put Google Play on them.

Just my ten pence worth...
