So, while I'm not unfamiliar with Macs (I used them often enough through my k-12 days), I had never owned one of my own before. After nine, soon to be ten, days with my new SR MBP, I think I can provide an objective review.
The Good:
Looks and features are excellent. The MBP is beautiful on the outside as well as on the inside. The dock makes life much easier, and I couldn't imagine life without expose. At first, Dashboard seems to just be a gimicky toy, but it grew on me. I've found it useful for quick look-ups and conversions. I don't think I could live without any of those features now.
The sleek and stylish properties of the MBP can't be beat. I almost look on with pity as my Dad stuggles to keep his 9lb laptop breathing.
The setup process was very simple, and it took half the time (or less) of any other computer I've ever setup.
The Bad: I've noticed some software slowdowns that bother me. Safari at times needs two clicks in order to do anything. Sometimes the bar will load a tenth of the way, and then a second click will make it actually go to the page. Then at other times, it will respond right away. Even if it's webpages I've been to before, the response is random and chaotic. I know it's not my internet connection, because even IE didn't use to do this on my old laptop.
The other thing which irks me a little is the lack of a "print selection" button. I know someone brought this up in another thread, and how a program can do it for you, but aren't Macs supposed to work "out of the box?"
Lastly, my spacebar SQUEAKS!!!!! For 2k hardware, the spacebar should not squeak at all.
For switchers, I encourage you to jump in and buy. The switch is really quite easy, and now that it's possible to run Windows (if you need to) there's really no risk in buying a Mac. Every computer has its drawbacks, but the MBP and MB have very few compared to other PC's.
