This started very suddenly today. I was in finder looking through some pictures when my screen suddenly turned blue. After a second, it faded back to normally, so I continued what I was doing. After about 5 minutes, it happened again, but faded back. It's be less than a half-hour, I haven't touched the computer but the screen is turning blue than fading back every half a minute or so. Every now and then, the screen stays blue for about 20 seconds.
All this while idling.
I have no idea what's wrong, this has NEVER happened before.
Help.

Sounds like your wiring might be messed up or it's some other internal problem possibly with the logic board.
Time for a Genius Bar appointment.

Could be to do with colour profiles. Without a colour profile, the screen is very blue. Don't know why it would be flicking between them though. normally, it would occur after waking from sleep - mac os x would forget to apply the colour profile.

I checked the color profiles, I don't think that's the problem. When I say the screen turns blue, I mean it turns completely one shape of blue, like a blank screen filled with just the color blue.
I also tried going into safe mode, but it still started turning blue.
Genius Bar? Unfortunately, the nearest apple store is... 3-5 hours by car.

Same problem with Mac Pro

Lately I've been getting the same blue-colored screen when my 2008 MacPro reactivates the screen after the display has gone to sleep. It lasts a particularly long time when I wake the display from sleep first thing in the morning (the computer never sleeps, just the display).

Restarting makes no difference. I've wondered if it could be a problem with the 30" display (two years old). Would love to know what's causing this, but surely don't want to haul this behemoth in to the Apple store unless I really NEED to.

Would love to hear if anyone has the same issue...

I have a similar issue. Sometimes my screen just turns completely blue, and all of the windows and applications I have open quit. Sometimes, I click on my 'downloads' or 'applications' folder on the sidebar, a sort of transparent half-image of what usually shows up comes up, and then the screen flashes blue and sort of resets itself to as if I never clicked the folder. It doesn't happen with other folders on my desktop. It's weird so please tell me if you find something out.

Is it the same shade that it turns when you plug in or un-plug an external monitor?

Any dust bunnies or balls of lint in the monitor outputs?

I just started having a similar problem, too. It started since I began using an external monitor a few days ago, but it's happened even when it isn't connected. My screen(s) just randomly fade to blue and it's happening with increasing frequency and staying blue for longer. \:

mac screen randomly turning blue

Has anybody found an answer to this? My 24"iMac keeps going all blue, including my Cintiq screen. It happens randomly and stays blue for anywhere from 5 - 30 seconds so far. This is annoying and scary. Thanks for your help.
