My site looks really plain. Help/critique please!

So my parents wanted a website for our company. They wanted a simple, modern website. This is what i made so far: http://www.xii-ii.com.

I used iWeb to make it. It's the first website i made. Please give me your opinions on the site and how I can make it look better. Also, it loads really slow. Is it because of my host? I used A Small Orange.

I think you should use dreamweaver or nvu, iweb is to basic. if you need help just message me and i will help you.

Get photoshop or a bit of paper and play-around with some designs.

Then copy it using dreamweaver, ideally in CSS but tables will do.

For a clothing printing website, it sure is dark, sleek, and futuristic. Maybe the theme works for electronics and computer hardware, but for clothing? Use some bright colors and make it happier.

Just amuses me that three of the responding posters have spelling and grammatical errors, and two of them make the very same error.

You're correct, if you use to instead of too, or ignore capitalization and punctuation, a spell-checker won't help.

This would be merely amusing, not sad, if I didn't also see these same errors in finished web work exposed to the public. Moral of the story -- make sure all work is proof-read before being released. Your client's reputation, as well as yours, depends on it.

I would say that it is even to complicated, make it more simple. Change your color scheme, people dont generally like reading white on black, try black on white. Your logo also seems to well webby or future like for the type of product you are offering. I had to create a sight that was ment to be as simple as possible and really easy to ready because the people who were targetted by the sight might have visual issues based on age, and not have grown up with computers linkey.

It may not be a site that I will feature on my portfolio, but it is exactly what the client wanted.

Alright without ripping the site to shreds I've got some simple suggestions which may help.

1) As others have said, lose the white text on black background. Find a nice colour for the background and a text colour that's both easy to read and compliments the site.

2) Try some better use of the photography, especially on the first page. Rather than have the user encounter a big block of text telling them about the family business why not show them the business?

Heck put up a picture of your products with a headline like "18 years in the textile business" or something to that effect

3) The "logo" looks like OS-X Tiger's branding. And doesn't scream clothing at all, unless it's some uber high end boutique brand for the rich and fabulous, and even those brands have fancy models wearing their stuff right next to a logo like that.

Thank you for all your suggestions! I'll definitely take note of each one. I changed the site but it still seems too futuristic. I don't think the buttons go with it. I'll probably change it again tomorrow since some of the links don't work too. Thanks again for everything! I really appreciate it

that looks 10x times better my friend. There's still room for improvement, but at least now it's not as plain. Keep at it!

I am not sure if you are just looking for comments on the look of the site but...

Some of the buttons on the left side don't work when you are in a page other than home. For instance when you are in the "products" section the home, orders and contact buttons don't link anymore.

Like I said not sure if you are up to the error checking phase but something to note.
