NOW ON WITH THE STORY...

Just got an iMac G3 (Indigo, Summer 2000) off of eBay and I decided to put Skype on it so I could rub it into the face of my friends!:p Here are the specs:
  • 400 MHz
  • 128 MB RAM (You read that right)
  • 10 GB Hard drive
  • Skype 2.8.0.851
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9 Panther
  • And other default iMac specs
When I installed Skype, it connected and everything went smoothly. It loaded up my contacts, etc. However after several calls, maybe due to the low amount of RAM (or the mic, maybe), the contact said my voice was distorted. After I restarted the issue went away and probably will come again when I go Skype crazy and call one contact after another after another. Then I tried screen sharing. It worked but updated in around 30 second intervals. It also was in very poor quality. Don't know why. If I can successfully use screen sharing, I can probably use a FireWire webcam. But since I don't have one, I am unable to test that out. When the contact started screen sharing or webcam, Skype recognized what it was trying to do, but left me with a black blank screen.

Bottom-line: It is a great computer for audio and text chats. But if you're a screen sharing addict or you have to use the webcam everytime you chat, you maybe are better off with at least a G4 iMac.
