Well, let just say I've just removed the glass and what a REVELATION!
Brighter/Whiter! Apart from the very odd, slight Yellow color shift down the middle of the screen of course!!! MMMM Whats that about!! LG

(Im gonna live with it!

I was apprehensive about buying this revision, loads of reasons! Soon to be dated!! Uneven backlighting, pixel burn in, double glazing!

I went with the Nivida 8800GT, to speed up aperture, and hopefully hardware exeleration support in Snow Leopard. But it doesn't seem to be optimized very well for Aperture, or am I expecting to much smooth panning of NIKON D70 RAW Images ??? Maybe I need more Ram!

Why did I blow the extra £270 on exactly . LOL-

P.S. Note to future self,
Black Friday discount cannot be combined with student discounts! LOL

EDIT-Have to say now, I've made the adjustments below, and used a spider color profile off here , I'm Loving it! SERIOUSLY :D

What is it? Soon to be dated!! Looks like something off of star trek with the tinted glass off & probably will fail prematurely one day due to heat.
Will I kick myself in the head when and if the LED iMac come out :(
Will that Quad Core revolutionize!!!

What do you mean you removed the glass?

Hi their! If you use a little suction pad, you can safely remove the glass!
Its secured with small magnets.

Its ever so easy and is an option worth trying if you suffer from eye strain , etc.

My verdict - Screen is more gorgeous and colors are more natural, but this is just my preference ;)

So I wonder how safe it is for the screen to leave the glass removed. Is the screen underneath basically the same as the older matte iMac screens?

So basically Apple is just being lazy by not offering some sort of matte option? I mean if THAT is all it takes to get the reflectimax glass off, you'd think there would at least be a third party that would make a matte replacement.

I totally agree! I'm surprised a third party hasn't looked into releasing a new magnetic frame!

There is still some reflectiveness. I prefer this small amount of gloss effect to the glass.

Compared to my old imac the Alu is a design marvel!

P.S. BTW SHADES is ACE!!!! Really cool utility :)

The more I use this mac, the more I like it!

the screen is there for a reason, helps keep dust, scratches, fingerprints off the lovely glossy screen, think you've really spoiled the look of it too, cant wait for new to recieve updAted imac

Definitely!

Although there is still a slight reflectiveness as you can see from the pictures below. I prefer this small amount of gloss to the glass!

Also more Aluminum and a smaller black bezel brings it more in line with the unibody look and seems more esthetically balanced to me.

Compared to my old mac it's a design marvel!

My only downside is Core Animation Performance in OSX is very similar to my Core2Duo White imac, must be a core image thing !
Scrolling itunes album artwork is a bit choppy. I remember it being smooth as butter on the 2.8 Raydon 2600HD in the Apple Store.

Maybe this older 8800GT is not as advanced as the 9400 integrated graphics of the new macbooks either, maybe its osx.

I hope apple or Snow Leopard supports hardware exceleration available on older chips like these in macs?

P.S. BTW SHADES is ACE!!!! Really cool utility :)

What's the snaazy looking liquid effect you got going on in the first 2 pictures...?

I was thinking the same thing. How hard would it be for a 3rd party to manufacture a matte version to replace it. Or a privacy screen. Or any one of a number of options.

My God-- that matte screen looks so much better! I can't understand why this is not offered as an option?!?! What is the appeal of glossy? It's extremely annoying...

And you can tell the improvement from these pictures? These pictures that you are viewing on your glossy screen?

I agree, it dose look a bit naked,

Maybe some small component manufacturer could produce a replacement magnetic Aluminum bezel!

With or without another matted/hard protective screen layer.

Giving it a truly matt, e.g. anti reflective & speckled like the older screens?

I could just see them all over ebay! Shipping from china from China :)

We like paying over the odds for all companion products.

GOD, I bought the rather expensive Aluminum mStand! Only to return my macbook pro for the imac LOL

And their is a OSX blue ray player, for mac on ebay too.

Don't get me rong, the glass is great for watching Movies and Tv and for generall use! iPhoto etc

I just dislike the tint! I use apature alot, so makes sense for me!

And would not see any point in removing the glass from my parents! or brothers iMac!

No need!

PS The replacement screen and bezel, could look like this! Silver and gloss!

Well, you could get a glass cutter and cut out the glass from the center, leaving only the black border around it. Maybe take it to a glass shop and have them smooth out the rough edges from the cut. It would look less naked that way.
