My terminal won't open. Icon is missing...

Not sure what could have caused this(probably negligence), but whenever I try to open Terminal, it will open and shut down immediately. The terminal window never actually appears, however an icon will show up on my dock and then immediately disappear. The actual terminal icon is missing and replaced with the default "Applications" icon.

I tried doing a search for a fix but couldn't find anything with the same problem. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

You'll need to reinstall OSX

but have you ever used some system improving / cleaning apps , or app removing apps , as these can be a reason for certain system parts missing suddenly
not that these apps would be a bad thing , its just the user needs to know exactly what he can safely remove and what he should avoid to remove under all circumstances, so the user needs to know more then the app

Oh man... I was hoping it wouldn't have to come to that. As for the whole app removing app thing, I have used one but i don't know how it would have deleted my terminal.

just because sometimes two apps use the same parts of the system , and the terminal is nothing else then a app , so if you delete a app with a app remover most give you a list of things they will remove when you select a app you want to remove , and there is the catch , if this app shares parts with another app and you dont know that , then you basically permanently remove the app you want to remove and all debris left behind in the system of it , but by accident make another app unusable in your case the terminal , because you did without knowing delete certain shared parts too

like i said , these app removing apps are great , but you should know better then the app what belongs to which app and where the various parts of the app are stored and if you can safely remove them all , some of these things are stored in the HD - Library - Preferences, or User - Library - Preferences ,and are plist files ,which you could call with a lot of goodwill equivalent to the windows registry , and maybe you know how much damage you can cause in a windows registry by just removing something
