My theory on the brushed aluminum imacs.

Ok, i am not saying this is what is HAPPENING, what i am saying is what i think is the way in my opinion apple should go with this.

So we have all heared about the suspicion of brushed aluminum imacs, first i will say is what i dont agree with.

White plastic (consumer) imacs being replaced with these super dooper brushed aluminum imacs. Why? White = consumer, Aluminum = pro. Now before i get flamed with, WHAT ABOUT MAC MINIS!!!. mac minis are that colour imo to match in with the cinema displays.

Anyway here is what i think there should be. Don't discontinue the normal imac (upgrade it) but keep the look. But start a new line, called the "imac pro" we have a macbook and a macbook pro? why not have a imac and an imac pro? basically an all-in-one pro line to work natively with your macbook pro. perhaps a neat spot to keep your macbook tucked underneath? a possibility options to use ur MBP as an external display? Maybee use ur MBP's keyboard and trackpad for the keyboard and mouse on your "Imac Pro" The possibilities are endless. But basically what id like to see is an imac and an imac pro.

thats actually not a bad idea. its like your docking station for your laptop, turning it into some kind of desktop....

the "imac pro" would still be functionaly by itself?? or would it need the other thing to work??

I will be able to work by itself, in my vision it would just have the option open to use it as an extra to fully convert your imac into a machine just as capable as the macpro, by combining the ram etc when it is docked underneath the imacpro. Just a thought but i think it would be a neat product.

Would they have to redesign the MacBook Pro as well? It doesn't really have a docking port and I don't think any other ports are quite fast enough to make it worth the effort ( sharing ram through USB or Firewire won't be a speed improvement over just installing more ram in the iMac Pro).

The idea is interesting, but I think it is limited to a very specific group of buyers; people who have a MacBook Pro and need another computer. Most people who have a MacBook Pro probably feel it is adequate for their needs and if they need another screen, it would be a ton cheaper to just buy an external screen then buy an iMac Pro. Then there are the people who don't have a MacBook Pro and would get your iMac Pro; they would be missing out on many of the features of the iMac Pro and it wouldn't seem worth it for them to get it over a regular iMac.

I think Apple will just create a new iMac, I'm hoping for a quad-core and some type of HD burning drive (Blu-Ray or HD-DVD).

Hmm, i think im being a bit miss understood. What i am saying is have an imacpro, which has better specs than a consumer imac. But also has some bonus features for macbook pro owners thats may come in handy.

Maybe it's good for an iBook replacement, but when all of Apple's other computers look so much more sleek, the MacBook is due for some sort of update. Thin it out and give it some brushed metal colors like the iPod mini's had, and you're golden.

I suspect that marketing research will indicate that the market for two different iMacs (meaning two very different production processes) would make little sense for Apple. The MB and MBP are truly different products that segment Apple's largest market, portables.
