I just saw this app appear in the app store, looks like your standard time tracking type application but it claims to keep tracking time even when it is closed. So before all the "ZOMG this app breaks Apple's SDK but got approved for the app store! WTF!?!?!?!" posts I thought I'd throw in my guess on what it does ie. when you close the app it stops the timer and then when you reopen the app it calculates the difference in time since you closed it and then keeps going.

Yea, that's what it would have to do. That is probably what the Apple Timer App does. There is no need to run another process to keep time with there is already one running.
