Using SwitchResX, as suggested in the related H-IPS thread, i found my WHITE 24" C2D, purchased 27 Jun 2007 from an Apple Store, has the coveted LG Philips H-IPS panel rather than S-PVA seen in earlier editions!! Here is the SwitchResX data:

That would be great (because information is useful!), especially if people do it for other recent monitors: new-20, and also white-20 and new-24.

But where in the info-readout does it say "LG Philips H-IPS"? Does this require extra knowledge and interpretation, as when you say "Manufacturer specific data (not interpreted here)" near the end?

Descriptor #2 says LM240wu2 which is the model number of the LG Philips display, the same used in the new iMac 24".
 
Not being sarcastic but could someone please tell why is knowing about the LCD design so important? What is an H-IPS panel anyway and why should anyone care? I'm currently waiting for my iMac 24 to ship and just want to know is this H-IPS panel something I need to be concerned about on my iMac?

I've had my 24" iMac for about 6 months now...build to order at the time. I just pulled the data using SwitchResX and it would appear that my iMac also has the panel in question...

It doesn't mean a lot to me but I find it delightful none the less.

How do you know that "LM240wu2 = LG Philips = H-IPS"? googling "LM240wu2" brings up info about Philips (mainly from forums, which say it's H-IPS) but how do they know? Is there a database with information about the types of displays used in various models of Philips (and Dell, Samsung,...) or is it available on manufacturers' websites? Or is it from "various sketchy sources" as in #31-36 and 41 of https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/344204/ ? :)

Six days ago, prs86 said "someone needs to run this program on a 20. I guess I can do it when I go home after work, if someone doesnt beat me to it." It would be useful if someone with each monitor (aluminum and white) used SwitchResX (shareware with 10-day free trial period, http://www.madrau.com/html/SRX/About.html) to get data that can be decoded. (but is it obvious "what to do" after downloading the program? a "read me" user manual is available, but it's long)

I would especially like to know what the white-20" is.

This is interesting. Does anyone know if this particular lcd panel would be in all the last revision white 24" iMacs ? So, if I bought a 24" today from the last stocks in my local big box retail computer store, I should probably get one with that panel?

24" iMac AL uses LG/Philips Model LM240WU2 (SL/B1)
24" iMac White uses LG/Philips Model LM240WU2 (SL/A1)

These panels are considered best for those who do critical photographic work because their projection angles are such that you do not have perceptual fading at the top and bottom. The larger a panel is, the more of a problem with fading.

OK, I have an iMac with a cracked LCD, but I don't need the H-IPS. Can I replae it with the cheaper one? If yes, where can I fine it?
