Hey,

I got a notification that there wasn’t enough space for my phone to be backed up to iCloud, so I went and checked what was using up all the space and noticed there is 1GB of data that it doesn’t show me what it is for.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

When they released iOS 11.3 it split messages from the backup and gave it its own section in iCloud even though igloos messages didn't ship. This resulted in the backups taking less space. A few days later the messages section disappeared but the general backup size didn't increase back to where it was. It still uses the same storage so backups will say 2gb used even if your backups only equal 1.5gb, the other .5gb will be messages. I hope that makes sense but that is what happened.

It’s showing everything. Where’s the missing 1GB you talk about?

One image says 3.9GB, but the next one says 2.9GB and that's all the space that's accounted for. Both the individual things don't total anywhere close to 3.9GB

I would delete the back ups and back up on a laptop. The space is being taken up by old back ups

Do old backups not delete themselves? I've been using iCloud backup for a couple years now and never had this issue

Ah this makes sense. I do have a ton of messages so they could definitely take up 1GB
