I am trying to remove the Palm Desktop Application from my Mac, and OS X will not let me delete all of it because of some mystery function called "Localized.rsrc."

attachment.php

So I go to the Activity Monitor and nothing called "Localized.rsrc" shows up in the process list.

Then something to do with payroll services for QuickBooks somes up and I canacel out of that (I thought it was adware - imagine my surprise).

I Spotlight "Localized.rsrc" and try to delete it, but it won't go...

Help?

I think it is a theme file, but why is it tied to QuickBooks and Palm?

Have you tried simply to force the trash to empty, ie. holding down option while emptying, or used Secure Empty Trash? Or just restart like rdowns will say? (;))

Do the Console logs give any clues?

(And Keith Briggs heads in Stockport's first goal of the season :))

Force Empty does not work, I have it on Secure Empty right now and it's just sitting there (I will give it time)...I tried to follow Palm's directions for uninstalling using the CD...there is no uninstall option on the CD.

This thing is like a virus.

Yes, I restarted rdowns, up yours™. :D

to me it looks like an old style carbon resource file taking care of localization for an application. In this case probably a daemon process that was installed with the Palm Desktop Application that is still accessing that file. Assuming you haven't restarted the files still loaded into memory. not sure what you can do since the file doesn't look like it is locked and restarting of course didn't unlink the file to the process.

Try logging in as another (admin) user and delete it from there and/or use Terminal and just sudo rm it the he<cough> out of there... :)

There's also the safe boot option: Hold shift down during start up and see it you can delete the file then...

Secure Empty eventually worked.

I thought it could be the Bluetooth toolbar file that Palm uses to sync the Treo, but I turned all of that off and deleted the plists and still nothing.

I am now trying to Secure Empty the rest of the mess...stay tuned.

OK all gone...I hate this fracking Treo piece of ****.

Steve, can I have a phone, please, from Apple...that works.

God I hate this phone.

Glad it worked out.

And get yourself a Sony Ericsson. My Z520i works flawlessly with iSync over Bluetooth... :)

It's not ugly or particularly large, either:

Yeah - well the Treo has no issues syncing - they hook up perfectly via BT, but somehow between the PowerBook, Power Mac and iStink, the Treo started creating mystery calendars, so I wanted to start from scratch to hopefull resolve the issues.

Everything Palm is gone now.

Thanks for the help. :)

Next phone is a Blackberry unless Apple (doubtfully) releases something.
