Hey guys, was just trying to tether to my macbook and kept getting a "network adaptor cannot be set up" message. Tried to tether using bluetooth and once again got the same message. Tried restarting the phone to see if that would fix it and BOOM now tethering is magically gone?

Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it? Something happened.

Yes, forget MyWi and all the shenanigans and go install the sinfuliphonerepo.com source in cydia. After it's done updating, go search for tethering for 3G/3GS in the sinfuliphone source. Install which one you need. After it's done installing, the phone should reboot, and after your phone reboots, reset network settings and bam you'll have native tethering with the counter and Cellular Data Network options. Easiest in my opinion after fooling around with mywi and rockapp for i think 8 hours.

Yes, way better than Mywifi or PDAnet etc...

You have have to be a total noob if you can't get MyWi to work. There aren't any 'shenanigans' to set it up and use it. If you can set up a wireless access point, you can set up and use MyWi. Software just does not 'disappear' from a phone.

You get my vote for most obnoxious post of the year bub. In fact, MyWi is incredibly buggy and has a TON of issues including persistence issues and incompatibility with other fixes. Not to mention charging for a buggy program. I'll gladly pay for it when I don't have to reboot my iphone just to turn the damned thing off.

After the BS MiWi run around. I just did this method, and it bricked my phone. So now I have to do a full restore AGAIN! Does anyone have a method that is simple and works? Or is this all BS?

A little terminology pet peeve: your phone was not bricked. A phone that is bricked cannot be restored; it is completely and permanently disabled and connot even be put into DFU mode. Anything short of that is not bricking.

I will not say that it is without problems, but there is another way to enable tethering. You can unlock with blacksnow and then install a hacked .mobileconfig file. Some people report intermittent loss of WiFi connectivity with blacksn0w, but it is usually fixed by resetting network settings.

Yeah, I know it is not "bricked". A pain in the ass nevertheless. Two full restores in the last week because of dodgey methods to enable tethering is a waste of time. Should I just wait until someone can figure this out? It seems like everyone is throwing darts at this point.

the sinfuliphone fix worked great you just must not have done something correctly, i have done the fix to quite a few phones and never once had a problem

I am going to run it again. This time FIRST, before I customize my phone again.

I have a JB original iphone 2G with the latest OS. Is there any way for me to tether it?

It seems that the sinfuliphone apps are only for 3G and later.

I get the same issue with mywifi.

The wifi tethering works great (except for the battery eating).

The problem is that if I try cabled tethering it goes into this loop of mounting and unmounting. If I go to the app and turn off usb and bluetooth tethering it turns it back on and off we go again.

This means I can't:

Charge my phone via USB
Or sync my phone via iTunes

I can't believe I paid 9.99 for this "program".

I bought MyWi (No Rock) v3.4.3 through Cydia/Appsidy. I've tested both Access Point and USB tethering (but not Bluetooth).

Access Point tethering worked fine (WEP key enabled). I didn't leave it running long due to all the posts on battery drain having both WiFi and 3G on at the same time.

USB tethering worked too (on computer with iTunes 9.x installed for USB driver). I was surprised to see a "Internet Tethering" option appear under General->Network in the iPhone's Settings app (but I guess it was put there by MyWi).

I do not use MyWi normally so I don't have any longer-term or heavy usage notes. I just purchased it as an emergency measure, or maybe for possible computer use on vacations. One of the best utilities I've purchased for $10.

Tethering -- another cool thing my iPhone can now do too. :)

(Also just throwing in my $0.02 since I haven't seen any posts on the No Rock version of MyWi. Obviously, YMMV.)

I started using it also.
Very cool utility.
I like how it turns the iphone to a wifi router with wep encryptions and everything :D
Very nice and well worth the $10

Hahah, thats funny because I love that it acts as a hot spot at well. I can't tell you ho wmany times on the road for business it came in handy to have both me and two other coworkers hook into it. Such a nice feature, glad you turned around from your earlier posts! :)

So no one else is having the tethering mount/unmount issue?

As I said, the WiFi aspect works great for me (except for the WEP security, which also sends the program into a death loop, so I have to leave it unsecured).

Shenanigan, go flamebait somewhere else.

wow excuse me I didn't realize this was your thread, you were the one bashing this great software in the first place

no one else seems to be having an issue ( you brought up a 3 month old thread btw, why not make a new one with your own specific issues, separate from those the OP has )

Because the issue is related, as I have the same issue when trying to set up wired tethering. No sense creating another thread. You would have just told me to use the search button.

Forgive me for trying to troubleshoot. Next time I'll be sure to just let it happen and ignore so as not to offend your tender sensitivities.

Based off of the amount of issues users are having with this program I would say "great software" is pretty subjective.
