iPhone n: Why did my jailbreak take up so much space on my iPhone 4?

What do you mean by it took up 4gigs? Did you install anything? Why don't you show us what you installed?

The jailbreak can add some to "other" but not that much.

As far as your pictures, always do a backup before modding your phone.

I did not install anything and I did do a back up but how can I use that to get my pictures back.

iTunes has a tab to restore pictures (assuming you really did back them up)

the other is probably your picture but for some reason the iphone is not seeing them as that when you try and restore them.... i bet the other space will decrease alot

Shouldn't your album be in your computer? If that's the case then sync it back!
If you want your camera roll pictures then you should of have back up with Mac's Image Capture or Window drag your photos to a folder when you plugged your iPhone in?
