N00b here... anyone care to help?? [SOLVED]

Well, I just got myself an early '08 MBP with 2.5Ghz and 512MB VRAM and 2GB RAM. I want to install windows xp for the ocassional gaming experience. As I am completely new at this, if someone would take the time out to answer my few questions, that would be nice. I want to use Bootcamp btw and not Fusion or Parallels.

1. Assuming I meet all the hardware requirement (do I?) will installing XP harm my machine in ANY way, like overheating or anything?

2. Which would be the most stable iteration of windows to install?

3. Will I be able to play games meant for windows once I boot into the XP OS? Not the VERY current games, but some old ones like Desperados, Commandos, CS etc?

4. Any clear guide to help me in the process of installation from the scratch. (a link maybe?)

4. Apple has complete instruction on their website, when you start bootcamp assistant it has complete instructions, and to be perfectly honest, it really does guide you through it when you go ahead to do it.

1. No. (But... If you game a lot with newer games, your machine will heat. Fan control on bootcamp is not good. If you r paranoid type u can run smcfancontrol to manually set fans high enough. Search forums here for info on smcfancontrol and how to use it.)

2. WinXPSP2 or Vista32 is ok. I choose vista but many ppl hate vista (crazy i think - if u can run the latest then run it, its def better)

3. Yes its a "real PC" so anything u can play on a pc with yur specs u can play. with 2GB ram and a good video card u can play many new gameslike anirudh says.

4. Bootcamp is very easy to set up. It's only harder if u want tweak eg update video card driver or install vista64 or such things.

ok.. so prior to installation all I need is the Windows XP (Home or Pro) SP2 CD right? Or am I missing something?

If you're running Leopard and already have Boot Camp installed on your machine, yes. It's actually pretty painless.

You need the Windows XP SP2 Full install disc (not the upgrade)
