if i have an imovie with 8 clips... can i combime some of the clips to end up with 6 clips...

the reason i ask is because in idvd the scene selection menus seem to only allow for incrimints of 6 and it aggrivates me that i would have to have an extra scene selection menu for the sake of two extra scenes... i would rather just combine them and end up with one scene selection menu...

or

can i edit the number of scenes displayed in each scene selection menu???

sorry if this is foolish... im not a mac n00b... ive just never tried idvd...

ive been to the apple support pages and nothing seems to answer my question...

i cant imagine the idvd i would make with some of my imovies that i chop up max hedrom style... id have 90 scene selection menus each with a third of a second scene... but i wont worry about that just yet...

thanks for any help...

I only understand half of your question;

The scene selection in iDVD, so far as I know, is based entirely on the chapter breaks you set with iMovie. You create as many of them as you want, and put them where you want, so the number of clips in a movie is irrelevant. Perhaps it didn't work this way in iDVD 1 or something, but I didn't use it that long ago, and if that's what you have the $50 to upgrade to iLife 4.0 is well worth it--lots of new features in iMovie and iDVD.

The second half of your question I do understand, and as far as I know there's no easy way to work around the incriment-of-6 limitation for scene-selection menus. I have found that you can copy and paste the scene jump links, so if you've got an uneven number (6 and 2), you can copy the last two from the page with six, delete them from there, and paste them on the page with 2, leaving you with two pages of 4--somewhat more balanced looking.

So long as you choose a theme that works with this, and arrange them properly, it'll look fine.

You can also delete individual scene breaks in iDVD after they're created, so your movie can have more chapters than are accessable from the menu. Just delete the last two and the page that goes with them, for example, or delete two others and move the last two onto the page where they were.

As for the actual question you asked, you may be able to combine clips, but I don't remember seeing that option in the menu anywhere. Try selecting two clips on the timeline and looking through the menus for a "merge clips" or something like that.

in imovie when your getting ready to shoot it over to idvd it only lets me assign one clip per chapter... thus creating more chapter breaks... which i could do without...

ive tried apple clicking more than one clip to combine or merge but to no avail...

your scene selection menu trick sounds promising... but ill have to actually be at my mac trying it as i read...

im always making easy things difficult for the sake of being neurotic...
