Houston (duh)
I've been reading on here and talking this over with friends, etc. I'm going to finally get away from God-forsaken Microsoft. Anyway, the iMac is the machine I want right now, and I'm aware that in a couple of days, the new version will be released. I'm very familiar with the "nerd tax" of buying a system before their newer version comes out, and don't want to pay that, so I've been waiting a couple of weeks.

My question is this: will there be discounts on the current version? (Can I pick it up the day of the new release for a significant discount?)

I may buy 2... the to-be-released version on Tuesday and the old version if it's available for a decent deal.

I'm one of the converts from the world of PC and Microsoft. I can't stand Microsoft anymore... and I've yet to really learn much about Mac other than what I've read. I have an iPHone, and that's already better than anything MS has ever made... so I know the Mac is going to be great.

Congratulations. I switched back the year before last after my initial switch to Microsoft (seriously... 0S9 wasn't my favorite). Welcome to Macintosh.

The rumored release of a new iMac on tuesday is quite likely methinks, and it was wise of you to wait. The update will make the machines faster and may even boost the graphics capabilities which'd be awesome.

As for getting a deal on the old model, well its a tricky subject and depends where you're buying from. If its from an Apple Store then it is quite likely that come wednesday morning the current model will all be boxed up in the back ready to send to Apple. You may not be able to purchase it. If you're buying from the Online Store, take a look in the Refurbs and Deals section of the store, and it is likely that you'll be able to pick up one at around a 10 or 15% discount.

Third Party (PC world, Currys etc) suppliers may take a while to bring the new model into stock and will probably lump a discount onto the old model to get the shifted out of the way. I know that the old 2.4GHz MBP (the last-revision maximum speed) is on sale at our local Currys for £1000 which is 66% of the original price.

It depends on where you look really, although there will be a deal for you out there somewhere, hopefully. Good luck with your purchase and I hope you enjoy using the Mac OS.
