N97 or iPhone 3GS

WELL YOUR MATE IS WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG! Haha. Just kidding. Get what phone better suits your needs. I prefer the iPhone because it works well for what I need it, and it plays along nicely with my Macbook. 
It depends on your needs as already stated. The N97 is very slow though and has had nothing but software issues since it was released! still does.
I use an N97 as a company device and an iPhone as a personal device.
The N97 for work for the Mailforexchange support (iPhone also has Outlooks support) but I also need is as a Nokia engineer for testing SW/Apps etc. I will advice that the OVI store is WAY over priced, talking £5-10 for Twitter apps - there are free apps to but just some stupid prices there and nowhere near the variety you get with the Apple app store.
My iPhone for personal use it great using iMac and G5 Powermac is plays very well indeed, the UI is better, speed is better & media capabilities are just what I want (well lacking flash playback)
both handsets have pro's and con's both have supporters and haters, have a look around the net at forums for some more information, see what you want in a device too but take advice from people with a pinch of salt, you have to live with your choice not them

I had a 2g iPhone, but wanted 3g speeds, a better camera and so on... but am still under contract.
So, pay £400+ for a second hand simfree Iphone 3GS or £250 for a N97mini
I went for the mini, and I'm not disappointed so far.
From what I've read it has a newer firmware than the buggy N97 model and the keyboard is better too.
I like it a lot, however I did love the iPhone, so if a 4th version comes out in the spring/summer then I may move back, as I will be eligible for a new upgrade by then.
My advice - go for the N97 Mini - unless you have more money to spend

research them try the and see what meets your needs best. your on a Iphone forum so most of us will say Iphone. now go on a N97 forum well surprise surprise many don't like the Iphone. it's up to you to decide which like better and want to pay for!

I would have to say iPhone...of course lol. Besides being an amazing phone, it is backed up by an even better company in my opinion. I can walk into an apple store with any question whatsoever and have them help me to the fullest extent. Their genius bar is extremely helpful and they're always willing to do everything they can to make you happy (I've had a couple really great experiences with them). Comparing the phones, I just don't like the way the N97 looks. I don't like the physical keyboard and it just looks rather thick for my taste. However, I would recommend not getting the 3GS and waiting for the 4th generation because it's going to groundbreaking in my opinion. But if you can't wait, because I know its difficult, go with the iPhone, you will most certainly not be disappointed.

The N97 is a disappointment. If you're looking for an alternative to the iPhone (which is fine in its own right, if you don't mind the inherent weaknesses--lack of multitasking, Flash, tethering (if in US), etc...), then the Nokia N900 is a far better choice than the N97. An E90 is also a nice choice if you're in Europe/don't mind a lack of US 3G bands...though it's probably near the end of the line for new software updates (though the S60 v3 FP1 platform that the E90 uses will have support for quite a long time).
For my dime, if I'm buying a new top-end phone, I'd get the N900 in a heatbeat...it will have the best browsing experience on any phone, bar none--you'll get full desktop-like Firefox with full Flash support--something that puts the iPhone's browser to shame. Add to that a higher-resolution keyboard and a slide-out QWERTY, a better camera, and a legitimately open software platform, and it looks like a winner to me.
