Okay, so the thread title may have gotten your attention. I'm looking for some real-world experiences to be shared in this thread from those who are carrying a phone without a screen protector (plastic, tempered glass, whatever type).

I've used tempered glass screen protectors on my phones for the past couple of years but am really wanting to get some info from other users who don't use any screen protectors. I've got a Galaxy S6 and it would look so much better with a naked screen.

Anyone else been going naked on their phone and want to share experiences (good or bad)?

I am going bottomless if you will. I like a screen protector due to the OCD minor scratches it will get in daily use but I love a naked phone with no case. I do have a dbrand skin for added grip which I love on my N6 as the back white color was pretty slippery.

I refuse to put cases on these beautiful devices but the trade off is I baby them to hell.

I went for awhile with my z3 without a case but the device is just too slippery to handle and I fear dropping it. It is a beautiful device BUT without something for grip and some protection I rather not have continued chancing it.

So no screen protector, just a tech21 impactology classic tactical for $9.99 at t-mobile store. I'd be rather foolish not to get it especially for that price.

I had Z3 with a front/back tempered glass screen protector and...

It saved my phone.

And I'm regularly buying them for my wife and daughter.

S6 naked sounds awesome. Broken S6 does not.

I don't use cases nor screen protectors, hate the added bulk and layer between my finger and screen.

As for how well they hold up? Scratches are getting smaller and smaller. A couple years ago with an iPhone 4s I would still have deep scratches by the time it came to sell, deep enough you could see a rainbow effect with the screen on, but now on my newer devices the scratches are so light that I can only see them if I hold my phone at an angle and the light hits it just right.

As for breaking, I haven't shattered one yet (knock on wood). I dropped my S6 twice from about 3-4ft on to concrete, dropped my Note 4 from about 5ft onto tile, iPhone 6+ from 2ft onto tile, my One M8 3 times from 2-5ft onto tile, Nexus 5 from about 4ft. onto tile, and one time dropped my iPhone 5S from 12 ft. onto tile, and each time no shattered screen. Now all those times the phones landed on their sides or corners, so they did end up with some nice dents and scratches, but screens held up.

Stopped using screen protectors years ago---hate the artificial layer between my finger and the phone. For the back, I sometimes use a case (Apple leather on my iPhone 6+ now) or often go naked. Again, hate to hide beautiful design underneath a case--also don't like the added bulk if I can avoid it.

Yeah, it didn't seem like a lot until I listed them. I should be more careful.

I've actually had worse luck with my iPad, screen cracked or shattered 4 times, though I only dropped it once and it landed on a pillow.

Stopped using screen protectors for the past 3 years. Cases always have a cushioned interior and hard shell exterior.

I have to have a case on a phone with an aluminum back. They are just like holding a bar of soap for me. Of course i have one on my GS6 too as it too is slippery with the glass back. The case i have it actually feels really good since imo the GS6 is too thin and the case isnt very bulky.

Oh and yes i use screen protectors.

I never use any protectors or cases on my phones, because I use a Brodit cradle in my car and as I am in my car to and from work, I'm not going to put my phone in and out of a case. I have done this with the iPhone 3GS, 4 and 5 and now my Nexus 5 over the last few years.
My iPhone 5 looked a bit battered after a while because of those stupid chamfered edges, my iPhone 4 looked pretty good after 2 years, the front had in my opinion some incredibly scratch resistant glass, the back was scratched though.
My Nexus 5 is holding up pretty well, and because it's case is plastic and the glass is Gorilla glass 3 or 2, it has survived the times I have dropped it, recently I have dropped it twice onto the drive tarmac, butterfingers, and whilst the case has some scuffs now and one of the back case edges had come away, I popped it back on, the glass didn't get any damage at all.

So you can use screen protectors if you want, but at the end of the day it's a device designed to live in pockets, to be dropped and survive, and I think the screen glass is sufficient enough to stand up to this.

I have never dropped my iPhones onto tarmac though, only flooring in the house and they survived fine. I wouldn't want to see the outcome of dropping an iPhone 6 onto tarmac.

I dislike cases but don't mind a tempered glass screen protector. I hate knowing that I'm hiding a beautifully designed device with a cheap piece of plastic that won't really "protect" the device in most drops. My OnePlus One has been running naked ever since unboxing but has had a tempered glass screen protector.

Completely disagree. If you are dropping your slippery aluminum phone, it is protecting it from looking like it has been in a demolition derby for which your resale value is then very little.

I've had my phones butt naked since the original Droid came out and I've never scratched, let alone broken, a screen. And not to sound like a douche, but that's with a good bit of alcohol and other substances involved over that time period.

Maybe it's because I played sports growing up, but how hard is to hold on to a phone? Or to remember that its in your lap when you stand up?

I dont get the whole screen protector thing...people just want to avoid responsibility at all cost? I mean, are people using a half inch of stick-on "glass" to protect both the front and the back of their silly new fragile Samsungs? Maybe leaving it naked and then blaming the phone company afterwards would be easier than sticking a fake piece of glass on top of more glass? :shrug:

I have had 3 smartphones and I have gotten a case for each one of them, except for the Galaxy Nexus. And what happened? I dropped it and the screen cracked. Now, I will almost always get a case unless I get the Moto X or a Windows Phone. I will definitely get a case for the new iPhone or LG G4 or Samsung S6. They're either too slippery and/or too thin. No screen protector though. I wouldn't use one even if you paid me.

I have a tech 21 tactical case on my G4, but I never use a screen protector. They always try to sell me them when I get a new phone, but I don't like them. I've never had much of an issue with Gorilla Glass scratching. Maybe a tiny one here or there over the life of the phone, but not worth the extra layer messing with the feel of the screen.

I've had my S3 since 2012 and have never used a screen protector. It's perfectly fine.

Maybe your athletic ability just sets you apart from the rest because surely somebody who played sports never drops anything

OK I know you wanted to hear from people who don't have a screen protector on. I DO have a screen protector (thin film type)on the face of my note 4 it is not a thick tempered glass, although I did look for one. If you invest in a good one unless upon close inspection you cannot tell that the film is there, and if a good quality, it will feel 98% like the bare glass feeling, which also wipes clean easily with cloth or your jeans.

I didn't have a screen protector on my s4 and nothing ill has come of it. However I always put some sort of very minimalist case on my phones because even a thin case can make a difference in a drop (if you are lucky on how it falls).

Actually he can be right, everyone has different levels of sweat for instance, different hands and fingers etc, so what works for one person is different for the next.
So you may not have greasy hands but your skin may mean you are better with a case then without if you see what I mean?

Yes. I live in Vegas where it is a dry climate so sometimes my hands just get dry and makes an aluminum phone very slippery. But clearly it is the mostly the shape/ thinness and the metal that makes many others claim it is slippery as well. I'm just saying there is no conection to sports in this which IMO was ridiculous. Some people are just careless, or rough on things.

For the record, I've never broken a phone from dropping it but occasionally I have a drop here and there but very few and I like the better grip I get from a case on those devices but didn't use them as often with a plastic back phone.

Yes I agree with the sports thing, it's a phone not a sack of potatoes. I don't know why they decided to use metal? I mean Apple has gone from metal to glass then back to metal for the backs. Nothing wrong with plastic and I think it's more resistant if you drop a phone.
