So I read online its 11 now finally. I was wondering when they would finally ditch "X - 10". But why now and not sooner? After 10.10 should of been 11. And after this will it be 12, 13, 14, etc? Or will it just be 11.1, 11.2, 11.3 etc?

I can't see anything wrong on the numbering system.

IMO, OSX 10.10 is more like mac OS generation 10, version 10. That's why El Capitan is OSX 10.11, but not OSX 11.

And Apple changed the OS name from OSX to macOS few years back, they literally ditched the "X" since Sierra.

Now, because of moving to ARM, mac OS also move to generation 11. So, Big Sur is macOS 11.0. The macOS next year most likely will be called 11.1.

Of course, there should be some minor updates for each macOS version as well. e.g. 11.0.6 etc.
