Hey All,
Long time reader, first time poster.

Recently bought a Macbook and currently trying to think of a name for it. All my previous computers have had names that have two meanings, and i'm having terrible difficulty thinking up one for the Macbook. It arrives soon so I need the name ASAP

Specs:
  • MacBook 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo (White)
  • 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo
  • 512MB 667 DDR2 SDRAM
  • 80GB Serial ATA drive
  • SuperDrive (Burns DVDs & CDs)
  • Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter
  • Keyboard/Mac OS
  • Country Kit (Australia)

Past Computer Names:
  • Mac Desktop: Gnosis (Greek for Knowledge, applies because my partner is currently trying to teach me greek at the moment
  • Old PC Laptop: Psyche (psyche means soul, and that laptop was like my soul)
  • Old PC Desktop: Sciatica (Sciatica is a disease that travels down the Sciatic nerve creating a pain in your ass. Computer was a pain in the ass!)

Possibly thinking something along the lines of:
  • Seele (german for soul - again, laptop is like my soul)
  • Gehirn (german for brain - laptop holds all my information, like my brain

Any ideas along those lines would be greatly appreciated.

Apollo - god of light, music, healing, prophecy, the sun and poetry

Definatly going to consider Apollo considering I will be using the laptop partly for DJing. Great suggestions guys, keep them coming!

Funny, but I realized a while back all my Macs have feminine names: Precious, Princess, Velma, and Leia...but my 2 Windows boxen have masculine names: Elmo and Lazarus.

I'm seeing a pattern here. lol

We started naming our computers to identify them on our network and decided to have some fun with it. We've since switched to using mac addys, but the habit has stuck. ;-)

I don't even have mine yet but it's name is Llandra (It means, "I have too much time and just make funny sounds that end up like names").

Mine is macbaby. heh.

My powerbook before it was peanutbutter (and our wireless network is jellynet..haha).

Kudos to you if you picked up on the pattern.

Three suggestions borrowed from greek mythology:

Apollo - god of light, music, healing, prophecy, the sun and poetry
Athena - goddess of wisdom
Hemera - goddess of the daylight

I have to say Apollo is awesome- so similar to Apple as well...maybe some way to work that in creatively in an icon- the light/music, etc fits your DJing for sure- maybe it could be your logo for your DJ biz?

3G iPod - Maia (In Greek mythology, there were these sisters and Maia was the most beautiful of the sisters. The other sisters of course are the other mp3 players.)

Powerbook - Golden Dewishious (The computer is an Apple and the kid I babysit used to say dewishious instead of delicious)

My External HDD - Isthmus Major

My Thumbdrive - Isthmus Minor

My Memory Stick in my Camera - Tabula Rysa (It's a blank slate and my name is Ryan)

I personally like to make sure that the functionality is hidden in the name. I think Tabula Rysa examplifies that perfectly. As for the white Macbook, Anima (living essence). Based off of Aristotle "De Anima", "on the living essence/on the soul".

All of my computers at the office are named after Battlestar Galactica characters, and the server is called galactica. :p

iMac G4 -> Apollo
iMac G3 -> Starbuck
PowerMac G5 -> Gaius
Macbook Pro -> Six (cause she's hot, just like my laptop, roffle :p)
Mac Pro (soon) -> Adama
PC POS -> Boomer (BOOM! :p)
xServer G5 -> Galactica

:confused: :confused: :D
