<name>@me.com to <name>@icloud.com

I previously setup an iClould e-mail address which surprisingly had a "me.com" domain.

I understand that Apple is now making available iCloud e-mail addresses using the icloud.com domain.

Is there any way to change / switch my "me.com" e-mail address to a "icloud.com" e-mail address without i) having to setup another e-mail address and ii) having to "redirect" everything? It sure would be nice for Apple to make this change automatically.

Once on the subject, what, if any, are the benefits of having an "icloud.com" e-mail address over a "me.com" e-mail address...for example, will apple eventually drop all "me.com" e-mail addresses.

Hi Joel here are already a lot of threads and discussions about this issue. I as many other members also think, because of the switch from @mac.com to @me.com a few years ago, that apple will allow us to use both or even all three email-addresses. It will happen automatically, but that should be no problem, because if apple still let us using our @me.com email-addresses nothing really changes.

I appreciate and understand your response...I raise this issue as I am in the "painful process" of changing over all news / notification / subscription / and other like e-mails from one e-mail account and I do not want to have to do this a second time because all of sudden the @me.com disappears.

I do wish that Apple would come out with a stated policy for moving from @me.com to @icloud.com.

It is my understanding that this "should" happen when one moves from iOS5 to iOS6 but I am not clear on this...do you or others have any insight into this?

No I have no insight into this but the chances are very high that we all could still use our @me.com addresses. Why? Because even "old" @mac.com users can still use their @mac.com email addresses.

I could not imagine that Apple would shut down @me.com addresses for already existing accounts.

Thank-you...I am going to do a little more digging regarding the ability to migrate from @me.com to @icloud.com...and, should I find anything I will post it but perhaps others here will have some information to share...

That said, there's no way in a very hot place that Apple would cut off existing email addresses for customers without a lot of forewarning. Your @me.com address will not cease to exist, just like my @mac.com address has not ceased to exist, and probably won't while Apple continues to exist. The bad press generated by dropping customer's email addresses when it's trivial to keep them running would be catastrophic to Apple.
