I live in the UK and have a 2gen shuffle, and an Iphone 3g.

I am going away to Spain and then Bulgaria and will be wanting to listen to music and watch films on way and possibly by the pool.

I am nervous about taking my iphone away, as i dont want to get it lost or stolen or damaged or be tempted to run up a huge bill.

I was going to get a 8g purple nano this weekend, but then the new shuffle came out and I think it looks cool.

I can't afford both, but i don't want to get a nano, if they will bring out a new one soon. With the last one released september, its a long wait and will cause holiday problems.

Advice please?

Pure

Simple, Nano. First off you want to watch videos; can't on the shuffle. You get more space on the Nano, 4gb vs 8 or 16gb and I have a feeling the way you control the new shuffle is going to be a real pain with daily use. You can also use different headphones if you want to on the Nano, something you can't on the Shuffle.

New iPods usually come out in September so get it now or get it from the refurbished store. Saves you extra money.

You have an iPhone so purchasing a nano really is a waste of money. There's nothing it can do that your phone can't do better (except shake to shuffle - don't know how anyone could survive without that feature :p).

You said yourself that you don't want to get a nano, so save money and buy the shuffle.

Obviously you can't watch movies on it, but you have a beautiful iPhone to do that.

I adore my Iphone, it is my fave possession, with my macbook in close second.

I have just been watching the video of the shuffle, and agree that the headphones don't seem to be the best controlling method.

The Nano, will only be used really on holidays or if I am train travelling and want to use my phone for the net and for calls only.

I am worried about the massive bill if I take my phone away, if I don't take it then I wont get a massive bill.

Thanks for your advice.

Will check out the recon store to see if there is anything going.

Many Thanks

If you are traveling and want to watch movies or pick random songs. The Nano would be a better choice for you. I just picked up the new Shuffle today for running and the gym. I love the small size and I have a set play list so I don't need to look at a screen.

Do you find it hard to run with? Meaning do the headphones bounce up and down? Or is there like a tie above the controls or something that keeps them together?

Does the Apple Store online in the UK offer refurbished iPod nanos? You should be able to get 4G or sometimes a 3G nano 8 GB at pretty reasonable prices.

Hi

There wasn't any refurbs on the UK site.

Got a 8gb Purple for £106.00 it is lovely.

Advice now please. I used handbrake to get my DVD's to my iphone but the mp4's are the wrong size for my Nano. How do I make a copy and resize, I cannot seem to find this out.

I am using leopard but do have access to xp as I used VM fusion.

Cheers

iSquint should do it for you. It's free to download on macupdate I think. I convert most videos on it using the tv setting (if you use the ipod setting the quality takes a big hit) and they play on a 2G iPhone, 2G iPod touch, a 3G nano and 5G ipod :)

Also when ripping in handbrake I use the iPod high rez setting (don't know if that setting's gone/changed name in the newer versions of handbrake) and it looks good and plays on all those devices.

Sorted thanks for that.

I went into advanced and changed to the nano screen size and all converting ok.

I did consider buying Quicktime Pro but read some poor reviews.

Thanks for your help.

Congratulations!
I have a Purple nano too, just with 16GB.
But I'm gonna buy the new shuffle in few months when the weather will be better (jogging and stuff) ;)

Have fun!
