iPod Nano shuffle question

I have searched and haven't found what I seeketh. I have an 8 gig 4g Nano. My first Ipod and only Ipod.... so far. I have about 7 gig of music loaded onto it. I have shuffle set to song. Repeat is off. When I put it on shuffle, why is it that I hear the same songs at least twice a day? It's gotten really old shaking it all the time.
